| Single click on a DECnet phase 4 node, go up to operations and
pull down the menu, do a SHOW --> STATISTICS.
This will invoke the Performance analyser. You do have to set
a time between samples of data before hand. This was just a
pointer to get you started.

596.2 | The manual says ...?

Hello,
I'am close to the same problem. I can work with the command line and forms
interface and the way in Re.1 is more or less clear to me, too.
But in the EFT manual you can read there should be a meuepoint in the
operation scrollbar. And there is no point like this.
So how can i find this point ?

596.3 | Please elaborate on .1 | MAIL::CLAYTON | Merlin Clayton DTN 445-7217 | Tue Jan 08 1991 11:57 | 28 |
| John,
According to the PA user guide on page 1-8 for the Iconic interface:
1. Select Operations from task window
2. Select Performance Measurement from the task window
3. Select SHOW from the Preformance Measurement menu
4. Select Traffic of Errors from the SHOW menu
Page 1-9 shows the menus selected from the Iconic interface.
Problem is, I don't see the same thing with my system.
When I select a node4 or bridge entity with mb1 and select the Operations
menu, there is no Performance Measurement menu.
Are you saying in .1 that a time between samples has to be set before the
Performance Menu is active?
I'm reading through the PA User guide now, and have not yet found how to
set the sample time for this function from the iconic map.
What am I missing here?

The sample time for all directives can be setup by setting your
time qualifiers. You want to set up the duration of each poll along
with any other pieces of information, like the start or end time
for the request. If you don't set up the time up front then a default
will be used.
You will find the menu item for this (Operation Time) under the
operations menu.

| Jill,
I've done this - still no "Performance Measurement" as per the user guide.
I've performed the following steps:
1. selected a phase IV node
2. selected Operations menu
3. seleted operations time
4. selected schedule time
5. enter start time, repeat interval, and until time
6. go back to operations menu
7. show stats, show counters, show anything
8. nothing happens until start time is reached
9. the show whatever directive activates one time after start time
10.cannot sho anything else unless I change start time to future receive msg
"start time already past"
I've never seen the "Performance Measurement" menu pick from the Operations
menu as shown on pg 1-9 of the user guide.
What am I missing here?

Merlin,
You're exactly right. We'll have to resolve this tomorrow(Wednesday).

596.7 | ANSWER: scope not schedule for stats | GOSTE::CALLANDER | | Wed Jan 09 1991 09:04 | 9 |
|
statistics require SCOPE time not schedule time. You must set a
scope (from the FCL PM this would be the FOR clause). The duration
field of a scope determines for how long (over what period) that
the stats are to be collected, which the start/every and until are
used to determine when each new collection should start.
hope that helps, sorry for not clarifing better before.

Merlin,
The documentation needs to be updated.
This is what I did:
1. selected a phase IV node
2. selected Operations menu
3. seleted operations time
4. selected schedule time
I also set up a Scope of Interest time.
0
5. enter start time, repeat interval, and until time
The only thin I had in the start time box was "NOW"
I also entered an "Until" time (1 month later than "NOW")
6. go back to operations menu
7. show stats, show counters, show anything
8. nothing happens until start time is reached
9. the show whatever directive activates one time after start time
10.cannot sho anything else unless I change start time to future receive msg
"start time already past"
Let me us know if you have further problems.

596.9 | Using PA from the Iconic Map interface | TOOK::ANWARUDDIN | Anwar | Wed Jan 09 1991 11:00 | 41 |
|
1. The section on Iconic Map interface in PA USE Manual needs to be updated.
2. To SHOW STATISTICS from the iconic map interface:
* SELECT AN ENTITY.
* SELECT SCHEDULE TIME. Required to schedule SHOWs every so often
until some future time.
- From the Operations Time menu, go to Schedule time.
- Select Start time. Click on Add.
- Select Repeat interval
- Select Until time
- Click OK
* SELECT DURATION (Scope of Interest time). This specifies the
interval over which to sample counters.
The scope of interest time also has `start time', 'until time'
and `repeat interval'. You specify these for SHOWing past time
statistics only. `Duration' has to be specified for both past
time and future time statistics.
- Go to Operations Time menu again. Select Scope of Interest
time.
- Click on Relative
- Select Duration
- Click OK
* SELECT SHOW STATISTICS. From the Operations Menu, select SHOW
statistics
* CLICK OK

596.10 | "PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENT" Menu pick incorrect? | MAIL::CLAYTON | Merlin Clayton DTN 445-7217 | Fri Jan 11 1991 14:20 | 13 |
| re. .8 & .9
>>1. The section on Iconic Map interface in PA USE Manual needs to be updated.
Does this mean that there is no Performance Measurement menu pick as per the
documentation?
Is The SHOW STATISTICS directive under the Operations menu the directive that
uses the PA FM?
