I just finished an overview and demo of V1.1 EFT for some of our internal Digital network people. Some questions came up which I couldn't answer, but would like to follow up on. Could someone please address the following: Q1. In what future version of DECmcc will we see a TSM replacement? Q2. What type of new FMs, AMs, and PMs are being worked on? Q3. How can I install DECmcc on a workstation that only runs DNS client. (unless a system has DNS server running, one cannot access DNS$Control required to setup the DNS subdirectories for MCC via the MCC_DNS_setup... command procedure). Q4. Is there an updated comprehensive list of DECmcc third-party developers, and/or strategic partners with an indication of the type of management modules being developed? Q5. Does the bridge AM support Vitalink bridges today? If not when? Q6. How can a customer get a MIB extension written for a TCP/IP SNMP device not currently supported? Input on these questions will be appreciated. Thanks. Merlin

Well I can't answer them all, but I will help on the ones I can. Q2: We are working on PM to PM, giving the user the ability to start up one PM from another. Notification "PM" functions, it is not known at this time if these will be incorporated into the existing PMs or into a new PM, but they will allow for the filtering and manipulation of occurrence information. There are other areas, like topology, being worked on but how far out are you interested in? Q3: the system I run on only has a client, I simply made sure that my nameserver was set up correctly on the other node with the expected MCC directories. Q4: a new list was put in the notes file a few months ago, I will try to find the number for you. | |||||

> > Q5. Does the bridge AM support Vitalink bridges today? If not when? > The Bridge AM does not claim support for the Vitalink TransLAN bridges (but it will show a subset of the attributes for the SHOW BRIDGE and SHOW BRIDGE LINE directives). The Bridge AM will probably NEVER add additional support for Vitalink Bridges. ----- My understanding is that Vitalink will be releasing a TransLAN AM "soon" which will support management of these Vitalink bridges in DECmcc. >Q6. How can a customer get a MIB extension written for a TCP/IP SNMP > device not currently supported? I don't know. This is being worked on by the program team, you might try asking Mark Hebenstreit or Earl Ingalls. |
