| To show the version of a specific component, type
MCC> SHOW MCC 0 <component> ALL CHARACTERISTICS
This will give you the version of the individual management module.
You can also do this from the Iconic Map by adding the MCC entity
to a domain and double clicking into it. You will then see all of the
management modules that MCC knows about. Select the one you are interested
in and then pulldown the operations menu to do a SHOW CHARACTERISTICS.
The About help will contain the version of the DECmcc Directive kit installed.
In this case it should have been T1.1.

| In the T1.1 kit the HELP says it is V1.1.
When you start MCC with the FCL as the PM, the version is displayed
at startup time before you get the MCC Prompt.
However, with the IMPM there needs to be a way to do it without
creating a domain to put MCC in then opening it up. I shouldn't have
to write into the namespace just to ask what version this is
(especially if you suspect a version mismatch).

The About help will (in the next version) contain the version of the
DECmcc director kit installed. It was an oversight on our part that it
doesn't say T1.1. This version is equivilent to what you see
when you start up the MCC with the FCL.
There will be management modules released asynchronously from the
DECmcc director kit (e.g., TCP/IP AM). If you want to see the
version of non-DECmcc Director kit management modules from the
iconic map, you will need to add the MCC entity to a domain. double click
into it, select the management module, and show its characteristics.
This is what we call managment of managment.

535.4 | Writing to DNS to find out version not ok. | NSSG::R_SPENCE | Nets don't fail me now... | Fri Dec 14 1990 13:24 | 8 |
| Thanks for the pointers to finding the version.
However I still believe that it is not acceptible to have to create
a domain (therefore writing into DNS) in order to simply find out
if you have the correct software installed.
