519.1 | Same problem here
| VERS::ZITTER | | Wed Dec 05 1990 12:28 | 8 |
|
The very same error appears also in installation log before the sentence
"Completing DECmcc DIRECTOR Postinsallation procedure"
when MCC tries to register an entity named NODENAME_DIRECTOR
|
519.2 | The messages from FCL and the Iconic Map should have been the same.
| BARREL::LEMMON | | Wed Dec 05 1990 13:31 | 8 |
|
There is a bug in the Iconic Map's generic error message display routines
that caused the "map window message: no corresponding entity instance
exists" message to be displayed. This is why the FCL and Iconic Map error
messages are different. They should have been identical. It has been fixed.

519.4 | Try to setup DNS. | TAVIS::PERETZ | | Sun Dec 09 1990 06:51 | 14 |
| Olivier,
I found the cause for this situation. You have to set up the DNS before
trying to create domains. There are two command files to do it:
SYS$COMMON:[MCC]MCC_DNS_BASIC_SETUP.COM;1
SYS$COMMON:[MCC]MCC_DNS_SETUP.COM;1
All this is explained in the installation manual for version 1.0 and
apparently applies also for version 1.1.
After running these command files the problem disappeared.

519.5 | create domain problems persist | MAIL::CLAYTON | Merlin Clayton DTN 445-7217 | Thu Dec 13 1990 14:32 | 53 |
| I'm having similar problems creating and deleting domains.
I followed the steps layed out in the EFT 1.1 instalation guidee on p 1-6
and was unable to create domains from either FCL or the Iconic map interface.
I was getting the same errors referenced in .0 and .3. As suggested in .4, I
ran the mcc_dns_basic_setup.com procedure, and I can now create new domains.
However, I cannot delete the domains that I was previously trying to create.
If I enter "create domain .stld" , I get the following error:
Domain STO_NS:.stld
AT 13-DEC-1990 13:16:23
The requested operation cannot be completed
Entity Existence Info = Entity Exists
I interpret this to mean that domain .stld already exists, so the natural
thing to do is "Dir domain *", I get the following error:
Domain
AT 13-DEC-1990 13:13:58
No such entity: Domain
Unknown Entity = Domain
If i try to delete the domain with "Delete domain .stld", I get the following
message:
MCC> delete domain .stld
Domain STO_NS:.stld
AT 13-DEC-1990 13:16:45
No such entity: Domain STO_NS:.stld
Unknown Entity = Domain STO_NS:.stld
I feel like I'm on a merry-go-round.
Can someone exlain to me what's going on, and how to get past these problems?
Have i messed anything up by running mcc_dns_setup.com and
mcc_dns_basic_setup.com in that order?
Once again, there was no reference to mcc_dns_basic_setup.com in the
installation guide. If it's required to make MCC work, it needs to be
documented.
Thanks for any help.
Merlin

519.6 | Our way to solve it | VERS::PETROU | | Fri Dec 14 1990 05:37 | 15 |
| Re .5
Hi.
Here, we had the same problem (see re.1).
We correct it running the two procedures; mcc_dns_basic_setup.com and
mcc_dns_setup.com in this order...
Moreover, if you want to delete your domain , make it under DNS.
In fact all this problem comes from the setup oh DNS that is badly
documented.
Good luck... Philippe

Another create domain problem.
| GIDDAY::BROOKS | | Tue Aug 27 1991 22:56 | 32 |
| Hi,
I have come across a customer problem when they trying to create a
Domain for the first time. The customer has installed the DNS server and
MCC BMS V1.1 on his workstation.
He created a name space called TECHNICAL_SUPPORT_NS: and the clearing
house, TECHNICAL_SUPPORT_CH:. He received the following error when using
CREATE DOMAIN.
$ mana/enter
DECmcc (V1.1.0)
MCC> create domain praxus
Domain TECHNICAL_SUPPORT_NS:.praxus
AT 17-NOV-1858
The requested operation cannot be completed
MCC Unhandled Service Reply = The requested operation cannot be
completed
MCC Routine Error = %DNS-E-BADITEMBUFFER, Invalid buffer size
----
We created a new default Namespace of PTSUP_NS:. The same create command worked
with no errors.
Does DECmcc have a restriction on the lenght of the namespace used??
