469.0. "DECmcc & systems management" by BRSIS6::BUTTIENS (Roger Buttiens) Mon Nov 12 1990 03:17

Hi,

Can anyone provide (some) answers to this question :

What AM's for system management are :

	1) available NOW (1.0 or 1.1) [ ;-} None, to my knowledge ]
	2) planned for (x.x)
	3) thought off, but not yet scheduled for some release of DECmcc

Any kind of background information is highly appreciated.

Thanks already,

/Roger

There are no plans to deliver system management as part of MCC v1.0 or
    v1.1.

In general, this development group (NMS) will concentrate on building
    	- (data) network management capabilities
    	- a platform to support management of any component (such as
data networks, voice networks, systems, applications
data storage and management, bandwidth, environment etc. )

You should look to other development groups to provide the actual
management capabilities (in terms of managed objects, AMs, FMs and
PMs) necessary to provide the management applications layered on top
    of DECmcc.

Hopefully one or more of the groups are monitoring this conference and
will add their comments. There is certainly work in this area, but I
don't want to speak for them.

Information Systems Business (ISB), is working on System Management products in
the following areas:

- Performance Management/Capacity Planning
- Resource/Configuration Management
- Fault/Event Management

We are working closely with DECmcc to ensure that the resulting suite of system
management software products will integrate well with DECmcc as it evolves.
This includes joint prototyping activities with DECmcc engineering.

We are represented on the EMA Review Group by Son Vo Ba and on the EMA
Steering Committee by Diana Grupposo.
