315.1 | in DECmcc Use under Maintaining Security | GOSTE::CALLANDER | | Mon Sep 10 1990 13:11 | 22 |

Hope this helps.
In the DECmcc Use manual there is a section called "Maintaining
Security". In this section it explains, and lists the files used
by DECmcc and their default/installation privileges. It also explains
the fact that different entity classes (devices) require other
additional privileges to run. It does NOT list what these are but
points to the other documentation.
The DECmcc use manual also explains the sue of the BY qualifier
and how proxies can be used to provide additional privileges to
a session or a specific command. (Though note, it does list those
privs required for phaseIV and bridge management).
In regards to finding it in the other use manuals...I didn't have
too much luck either. I have brought this to the attention of the
AM developers, I will also send a note off to the writers regarding
this.
Thanks

| _DECmcc Use_ covers security in Chapter 2 in both the V1.0 and V1.1
versions. In the V1.1 version, it's "Maintaining Security"
(pp. 2-12 to 2-13).
_DECmcc DECnet Phase IV Access Module Use_ covers security
in a topic called "Privilege Requirements, Access Control,
Restrictions" in Chapter 1.
The Bridge and Ethernet AM _Use_ documents don't seem to have an
explicit treatment. You're right there. I would say that is an
oversight which should be corrected.

| Thanks folks.
I think it would a great help to the users and managers of MCC systems
in the field if some text like "Privilege Requirements" could always be
found in the TOC even if the actual coverage is in a major heading as
in the USE guide.
When you are tying to figure out (as I did for many hours last week)
why something isn't working, it may not be intuitive to look under
"Security" as a heading. BTW, I did try the "Troubleshooting" section
but it didn't help.

| Agreed.
Bridge AM Use and Ethernet AM Use (as well as the OnLine Help for
Bridge and Station) do not mention required privileges.
Mention is made of required privileges in the BMS Release Notes.
We'll have to fix this for V1.1.
