269.0. "Maps & Icons for MCC" by WOTVAX::PURNELLR (...all this now !) Tue Aug 21 1990 07:08

I am currently in the early stages of populating an MCC locally. I am
looking at the presentation capability available. I already have
several Icons and Maps available to me from the VCS and DCW products
which I would like to incorporate into the MCC , I currently have these
files in DDIF format. What do I need to do to make them available to
    MCC ?

Secondly, bearing in mind what is already available with VCS and DCW
(TCW?), are common Icons and Maps likely to be used with future
releases of VCS, MCC. It does not seem to make sense to have the two
product sets developing their own little graphic sets for the sake of
it (this does not mean that I think the ability to design your own
Icons should not be available). To introduce to a customer the MCC and
SMCC product sets with similar Icons and Maps would be far more
    professional, Yes ?

    Cheers,

    Rex

    Rex,

As far as making your maps (I presume you mean maps with icons and
lines and everything else) goes, we do not support it for version 1.1.
The reason being we have not written the code to disect ddif files and
create Gobe (that's the widget we are using) objects from them. Gobe
does support reading ddif files that it created, though. What your
asking for though does seem to be coming from more than one
    direction.

You can, however convert your ddif icon files to x11 (XBM) format
    by using decpaint or decwrite.

WRT using the same icon pictures across products, In *my* opinion,
yes we should. Can or will we do it?...

For the record, DECwrite doesn't convert anything to X11. We
have used DECwrite to "create" icons, DECwindows 'capture
screen' to get Icon into DDIF format, and DECpaint to convert
	DDIF to X11.

As for common Icons, if you can get the VCS icons, or any
other icons from any other product, you can easily add them to
the DECmcc system (you must get them into x11 format). Which
class they fit under is another issue.
