I am in the process of ordering some systems to monitor the network
and run DECmcc and the future versions of it. I was going to order
a vs3100 model 38 with 24mb memory and 2 rz23 disks and a cd rom disk.
I was told that this only runs Desktop vms version 1. Is that version
correct and does it and will it support DECmcc present and future.
I was told that DECmcc needs VMS 5.3 is this true
Please help
Chuck

You must also have access to a DNS Server (so either use an existing one or install it on your system as well...) _Future_ releases of DECmcc notwithstanding, you will also want to order a larger disk for the system. Right now, the DECmcc install will croak if you don't have a large enough system disk and I *think* the RZ23 is too small. [Although given IEG's leadtimes, this could be a non-issue by the time you get your system...] /doug | |||||

Hi,
We're running the IFT version and so far, a VAX II/GPX with 16
Meg. of memory is OK ( NOT great either ).
We have ordered a 3520 VAXstation with 32 Meg. so that we can run
the MCC with the following in production mode,
AM- Phase IV,V,Bridge,Ethernet Station
FM- Alarms,FDA,Domain,Historian,PA,Exporter,Reports.
PM- TRM, Iconic Map
If you're planning for the future, I would suggest to get the
"biggest" VAX-station if you could efford it.
The RD54 disk will NOT be able to handle all of the above module.

| 132.4 | Get a LOT of disk | NSSG::R_SPENCE | Mon May 21 1990 10:56 | 9 | |
You WILL need much larger disks than RZ23s.
I am running a VS3100 with a pair of RZ23s on it and with only a very
few layered products added there wasn't even room to install MCC.
I suggest that if you want to use VS3100s that you get lots of memory
(32mb may be the right thing) and the RZ5X-(f or g) add on disks.

re. the previous entries
A couple of issues have been raised regarding vsn's of VMS, minimum
disk size, memory requirements, and Distributed Naming Services as a
prerequisite.
To my knowledge, none of these issues show up in the Sales Update
article on the DECmcc station, either version. May I suggest that
all this good practical use information be passed onto product
management so that it can make its way to the field?
Regards
Guy

| 132.6 | INFO passed along | GOSTE::CALLANDER | Tue May 29 1990 13:21 | 7 | |
I have sent the information from this note to product management.
I believe though that it is too late for the next update. Hopefully
it is already there.
