102.0. "A Question on Setting the Variant of an entity" by POLE::LEMMON () Fri Apr 13 1990 10:45

    An entity can be defined to more than one variants. A bridge, for
    example, can be a LAN Bridge 100, LAN Bridge 15o, LAN Bridge 2OO, etc.
    Some attributes apply to all variants, some only to specific variants.

    To change the variant of the entities which I know of require the
    network manager to either set the attribute and issue a RESET directive, or
    deregister/register the entity specifying the new variant as an input
    argument to the register or create directive.

    Does anyone know of an existing entity (or one of it's children) that can change
    it's variant by only changing specific attribute(s) at the time the attribute
    is changed? That is, the user would type in SET <entity> <attribute> = <value>,
    and the entity suddenly changes to the new variant.

    Thanks
    /Jim

102.1How about physical switchesCHRISB::BRIENENChristopher J. BrienenWed Apr 18 1990 12:032
    Another way of changing a Bridge into a Listener is to set a dip-switch
    on the back of the box, and then cycling the power...
102.2How about a terminal?TOOK::ORENSTEINMon May 14 1990 11:152
    Would a terminal be an example? If you set the terminal TYPE to VT100
    you will see fewer attributes than if you set the type to VT300.
