57.2 | Somewhat cryptic. | DSTEG::MCCANN | | Thu Feb 22 1990 10:30 | 7 |

Thanks, Steve.
The filenames are somewhat cryptic. A brief explanation or the title of each
document would help.

| What happened to the MCC-INTRO-FIRST.PS document? It was there at

57.4 | A guided tour of documentation | WORDY::JONG | Steve Jong/NaC Pubs | Thu Feb 22 1990 12:14 | 35 |
| The directory listed in reply .1 is a public repository for all
documents created by the NaC Pubs writers assigned to Network Management
Engineering. As such, you only care about some of them.
Also, I've asked the writers to delete old drafts as they post new
ones. The file names will change, then, as writers post the field-test
drafts over the next day or so. Anent .3, I deleted the first draft of
_DECmcc Introduction_ when I copied in the field-test draft this
morning.
Here's a more recent listing of DECmcc documentation, annotated:
Directory USER$657:[PUBLIC.NMS] (on WORDY::)
Developer's Toolkit
EMA-GD.PS;1 4055 (EMA General Description)
MCCINSTALL_FLDTST_DEC15.PS;1 1427 (Toolkit Installation, FTU draft)
MCCUSE_FLDTST_DEC15.PS;1 1894 (DECmcc Use, FTU draft)
DECMCC_TOOLKIT_REF_FTU.PS;1 3225 (Toolkit Reference FTU draft)
AM_GUIDE.PS;1 3941 (Access Module Programming)
End User Kit
DECMCC-INTRO-EFT1.PS;1 21440 (Introduction, EFT draft*)
DECMCC_BRIDGE_AM_IFT.PS;1 1728 (Bridge AM Use, IFT draft)
DECMCC_ETHERNET_AM_IFT.PS;1 1955 (Station AM Use, IFT draft)
P4AM_USE.PS;2 4518 (Phase IV AM Use first draft)
V1.1 documents
SNMP_STORY.PS;1 271 (TCP/IP AM Use storyboards)
*Yes, it's that big! But it's only 164 pages. I have a number of
bit-mapped images in it. I urge you to print it on an LPS40 printer.

57.5 | | REGENT::AUGERI | Mike Augeri | Thu Feb 22 1990 13:52 | 6 |
| Does the DECMCC-INTRO-EFT1 file describe how everything "plays together",
for example, DECnet Monitor, ETHERnim, LAN Traffic Monitor, and whatever
other components may be used? If this document doesn't bring it all
together, is there such a document?
Mike
|
57.6 | No, but look in... | WORDY::JONG | Steve Jong/NaC Pubs | Thu Feb 22 1990 15:31 | 3 |
| The _DECmcc Introduction_ assumes "everything" begins and ends with the
DECmcc Director. For information on how the DECmcc Management Station
plays together, refer to _DECmcc Management Station Use_.
|
57.7 | | REGENT::AUGERI | Mike Augeri | Thu Feb 22 1990 16:42 | 7 |
| Steve,
Thank you, the DECmcc Management Station Use document is "exactly" what
I've been looking for -- a brief description of all the components and how
they interact.

57.9 | INFO - it will be in DECmcc Use | GOSTE::CALLANDER | | Wed Feb 28 1990 17:10 | 11 |
| The newest version, to be available with the EFT release, includes
a complete chapter on the SBI. It describes is usage and display
formats.
At this point in time there are no explicit functional specifications
for the SBI interface. If you need more technical information, above
what is provided in the DECmcc Use manual, please send me mail or
give me a call and we can discuss your needs.

| This may be a more recent version than the one you can (currently) get
from SSB, but presuming that you only need it for internal use, try
FILES::EMA$:[PUBLIC]ENTITY_MODEL_V1_0_0.PS;3
I don't know where there is an on-line (.MEM) copy of the published
version (which is a subset of an earlier draft of the to-be-published
Entity Model V1.0 for which I've provided the pointer to the .PS).
Confused yet?

| Can anyone give me a pointer to the VMS MCC BOOKREADER files online or, as a last

wants to read the manuals beforehand.
Apologies if the BOOKREADER files are on CONDOC - our cost centre can't afford
that. Also apologies if this has already been answered elsewhere in this
conference - network response is sooooo slowwwwwwwwwww here.
Thanks for any help.
