Sorry for the delay in responding to this question. There was some
internal confusing as to the scope of this notes file; if it should
deal with the entire DECmcc product or just the DECmcc director.
The descision has been made that this notes file will include all
DECmcc information/questions.
Your question has been passed along to the Site Management System
people and they will start to actively monitor this notes file to
handle any future questions you may have.

33.2 | Not remote problems | TOOK::W_MCGRATH | DTN 226-5075 | Wed Dec 20 1989 09:19 | 12 |
| I don't think either of the problems have to do with remote file
access. The privilege violation sounds as though the ETHERnim files
are protected from you (which they are by default following an
installation). To unprotect them, try setting W:RE to the .EXE and
.HLB files.
The RBMS error sounds as though you did not start up the BML process.
Try running SYS$STARTUP:NMS_RBMS$STARTUP.
Let me know if you still have problems.

| I've started the process for RBMS using SYS$STARTUP:NMS_RBMS$STARTUP.COM.
What I have attempted to do is setup DECmcc to run the process on the uVAX II,
but open a window remotely on my workstation. If I run RBMS and Ethernim via
a LAT connection to the uVAX II everything appears to work fine, but if I
attempt to run them by asking the uVAX II with a set display/create/node=node
to display the FILEVIEW process on my workstation, but run the actual product
back on the uVAX II I get a error message from both RBMS and Ethernim.
Question is since these products run fine as via a LAT connection
by running them indvidually, is the correct fix for this to modify the
protections so I can run them using a remote window via DECwindows. I
currently have not had a chance to change the protection on all the ethernim
file yet to see if this really will resolve the problem. I also believe the
problem with RBMS may also be a result of file protection problems.

33.4 | File protections or account security | TOOK::W_MCGRATH | DTN 226-5075 | Wed Jan 03 1990 15:37 | 15 |
| Could be one of two things:
1) Your ETHERnim files have not been changed to W:RE and when using
a LAT connection the products work because you are accessing the files
as a SYSTEM, OWNER, or GROUP UIC. RBMS also has to have an ACL set
(see the manual).
2) You have not set up protections for the remote user to access
your workstation through the SECURITY menu in the Session Manager.
Give both of these a look and let me know if you have further problems.
If you leave the error message and/or look at some of the NETSERVER.LOG
files, we may be able to determine the problem quicker.

33.5 | What DECwindows Display Server are supported? | TRCA03::TSO | Dominic Tso @TRC - DTN 637-3645 | Tue Feb 27 1990 09:11 | 9 |
|
I am planning to set up a demo of EMS/SMS running 'Remote Execution',
SPD only states the required DECwindows components on VMS DECwindow Server
Machine, but could I use Ultrix DECwindow Display Server or DECwindow
Display Facility of PCSA for DOS to access EMS/SMS running on a
multi-user VMS System? If yes, what are the pre-requisites?
Thanks in advance.
