TITLE: DBMS Gateway IVP Fails and DBMS is a Multi-Version Environment
PRODUCT: Rdb Transparent Gateway for DBMS V1.0B
OP/SYS: OpenVMS VAX V5.5 and higher
SOURCE: Oracle Worldwide Customer Support
SYMPTOM:
You are running DBMS in a multi-version environment and your standard or
default version of DBMS is lower than the version of DBMS that the
Tranparent Gateway supports, for example DBMS V4.2.
Before installing DBIG for DBMS you set the DBMS version to 6.0 (or a higher
version that the gateway supports) with sys$library:dbmsetver in order
to use a version of DBMS that is compatible with the Rdb Transparent Gateway
for DBMS.
The IVP for the Rdb Transparent Gateway for DBMS fails.
RESPONSE:
Do not run the IVP as part of the installation procedure if you are
running DBMS in a multi-version environment and your default DBMS
environment cannot be used with the gateway for DBMS. Once the installation
is complete, run sys$library:dbmsetver again and reset the version of DBMS to
6.0 or higher. Then run the IVP interactively.
ANALYSIS:
VMSINSTAL deletes certain key symbols necessary for the DBMS multi-version
environment, and as a result you end up running the default version of
DBMS for the system. The IVP should run correctly after running
sys$library:dbmsetver to reset the DBMS environment.

DBIG for DBMS 1.0B
DBMS Multiversion where the default DBMS environment is lower than
what is supported for DBIG for DBMS such as DBMS 4.2.
PROBLEM:
Your default DBMS version is 4.2. Before installing DBIG for DBMS
you set the DBMS version to 6.0 with sys$library:dbmsetver in order
to use a version of DBMS that is compatible with DBIG for DBMS.
The IVP for the DBIG for DBMS fails.
SOLUTION:
Do not run the IVP as part of the installation procedure if you are
running DBMS in a multi-version environment and your default DBMS
environment cannot be used with DBIG for DBMS. Once the installation
is complete, please run sys$library:dbmsetver again and reset the
version of DBMS to 6.0.
