Brief Description of Problem:

Leon is trying to install Digital UNIX v4.0 on a system that previously was
running VMS. The system fails to boot the Digital UNIX operating system
CD and just returns to the console prompt after issuing a "boot dka400"
command.

The initial problem was that Leon had loaded the documentation CD
instead of the operating system CD. However, after loading the
OS CD and checking all of the environment variables
(boot_osflags, boot_file, boot_ostype), the operating system CD
still would not boot. The system would just return to the console
prompt with no messages. On one iteration, he did briefly see a
message about "waiting to poll" but the message disappeared before
he was able to capture the full text. On subsequent boot commands,
the command did not reappear. I told Leon that I would get the
AS 500 User Guide to see if there was anything else that we're missing.

I checked the AS 500 User's Guide, but didn't find anything new.
I left a message for Leon to call me back so we can walk through the
procedure again and see if we can get his system to boot from the CD.

I took a call from Leon thru the call center this morning. Seems he
could not see the CD-ROM device. Advised him to check SCSI termination
and after he plugged in a terminator he could see the device.
Recommended he follow the UNIX install guide.

I called Leon today to follow up. At the end of the install procedure
he gets the error "can't open OSF_BOOT. cam_logger: cam error packet
hard error". I recommended that he call services to get help since
this sounds like a hardware problem to me.
