Company Name : Parker Software Contact Name : Steve Hecker Phone : Fax : Email : [email protected] Date/Time in : 27-MAY-1997 08:57:42 Entered by : John Talatinian SPE center : MRO Category : VMS OS Version : V7.1 System H/W : ALPHA Brief Description of Problem: ----------------------------- Hello, Parker Software has recently received a copy of the ASAP SDK for OpenVMS. We are trying to install it on an AlphaStation/200. The operating system itself (Alpha 7.1) installed with no problems. However, when going in to install layered products, we see no option for TCP. Also the license PAK that we have received does not seem to contain anything that looks like it would be for TCP. Could you provide me with instructions on how to install/configure TCP on VMS? One other problem we have is in getting DECWindows started. If I can get that started, I would be able to view the documentation CDs, which might help me out (I'm a UNIX person, new to VMS). When I boot up VMS, DECWindows does not automatically start. I tried typing in: run sys$system:decw$session I get the following error: X Toolkit Error: Can't open display: Fatal error detected, image exiting -- final message: no safety display could be opened : no such file or directory Do I need to set the display? What should I set it to (and how do I do this). Thank You, Steve Hecker Parker Software, Inc.

Steve, TCP does not come with the OpenVMS system as you get with NT and UNIX. It is a separate layered product. You need to get a UCX (TCP) kit and license to configure and run. As to your decwindows problem, do you have a workstation or server? Also please send me your phone number. thanks, john ALPHA Developer Support | |||||

John, A couple of things to note: 1) After logging in, I get the following error, which seems related to my problem starting DECWindows: SET-W-NOTSET, error modifying OPA0: SET-I-UNKTERM, unknown terminal type 2) When I boot up with the Operating System CD, and choose menu item 4) Show installed products, it shows the following: DEC AXPVMS DWMOTIF V1.2-4 Full LP Available DEC AXPVMS OPENVMS V7.1 Platform Available DEC AXPVMS UCX V4.1-12 Full LP Available DEC AXPVMS VMS V7.1 Oper System Available 3) When I do "SHOW LICENSE", a license for UCX is shown. 4) When I type "UCX" or "UCX HELP", I get the following error: %DCL-W-ACTIMAGE, error activating image UCX$CFS_SHR -CLI-E-IMGNAME, image file AS200$DKA0:[SYS0.SYSCOMMON.][SYSLIB]UCX$CFS_SHR.EX E;1 -SYSTEM-F-PROTINSTALL, protexted imaged must be installed I have an AlphaStation/200, and am trying to run DECWindows on the terminal that came with my computer, which is a digital model PCXBV-PC, if that helps. Thanks, Steve (212) 843-0140 |
