Hi,
UCX (TCP/IP Services) v.4.0 has a problem with subnet masks that are not
byte-aligned. The messages broadcast that way are bad and are never seen
by receivers across the network.
As an example of the failure, I have a node 160.101.95.109 with a subnet
mask of 255.255.255.0. It works fine. If I try to isolate the traffic to
the 95-net by using a subnet mask of 255.255.224.0, it does not work. The
same mask works fine on an HP-UX machine. It also fails on the VAX.
System is running Alpha VMS v.6.1, UCX v.4.0. I have downloaded patches
but do not see any mention of subnet, netmask or broadcast in the readme.
Should I patch the software? Do you know of this problem?

I wanted to drop you a note about the UCX issue you reported to the
ALPHA
developer support account. I have read your note and have not seen
this
behavior. I will investigate for you the problem. What patches have
you
downloaded and if I read your note correctly, you have not installed
these. Is
this correct.

Hi,
Thank you for your note. I have pure v.4.0 on both the alpha and the
vax
exhibiting this symptom. Yesterday I downloaded patches from the
service
site but I have not yet installed them. I want to do backups first.
