I think this may have perhaps been this customers first time in front of a computer. He was looking on www.service.digital.com for O'VMS patches: ALPLIBR05_070 VAXLIBR05_070 His ftp proxy server was causing problems with anon ftp, and I handheld him through a command line ftp session, told him to read the README files for installation, and call us back if there's a problem. John called back today. The copy of the Alpha version of the patches failed on Friday and he was having trouble getting at the files today. When he selected the files from the www.service.digital.com web page today, it just hung. He was also trying to get in via ftp with no luck. He was trying to ftp to www.service.digital.com. I asked him to try ftp.service.digital.com and then he was able to get in. I directed him to the patch files in public/vms/axp. Karen
3626.3 | still can't copy files | HYDRA::DORHAMER | Mon May 19 1997 17:02 | 16
John called again. He is getting errors when trying to ftp the Alpha versions of the patch files. The error he gets is: ftp: no control connection for this command. No such file or directory. He was able to copy the VAX files successfully. He cannot get to the files via the web page (I tried this too and got an error message "cannot login to ftp server, user anonymous access denied". I was able to ftp the alpha files from ftp.service.digital.com, so I am trying to mail John a uuencoded tar file. Its 5 MB, so the backup plan is to send him a 4 mm tape in case the tar file doesn't make it through to their system. Karen |
