Subj: Need help/pointer re: CRC Information Systems
Greetings!
I just spoke with a slightly frustrated Henry Hebing @ CRC Information Systems
about the support (or more correctly lack of) he's been getting re: Visual
Fortran (specifically on Intel). In a nutshell he's been calling a strange
toll-free number that he says either never answers or is always busy. It's
not the ASAP Hotline and it's not the CSC. The only name he could give me
was Alan Groves who he thinks might be his ASAP business relationship manager,
but I could't find him in ELF.
I'm not sure whether Henry still needs beta kit support for the Alpha compiler
(he did open a call with the ASAP Hotline last month, but now he is having pro-
blems with the Intel compiler. If he has been trying to contact the Fortran
group directly, they don't answer and it may be that he really needs remedial
break/fix support via the CSC for the Intel compiler. In any event, I wanted to
ask either of you who is the customer's business relationship manager, so I
can speak with them before I ruffle any feathers suggesting that they purchase
a support contract for their latest troubles, cheers...

P.S. Here's the note I just posted, I will send Henry another message with
some pointers to the "support" link of the DIGITAL Visual Fortran Home
Page...

Brief Description of Problem:
-----------------------------
They have completed a port to Alpha NT and now are doing a port of that to
Intel NT. They logged a call last month (#3483) asking about beta kits for
the Alpha Visual Fortran kit and how to order the Intel Visual Fortran kit,
(which they did). However the number they've been calling (Henry thinks
it came off the warranty card for the Intel compiler the got from a reseller
(1-800-922-7977) nevers answers or is always busy. FWIW, I have no idea if
thus is even a Digital number.
In any event, it sounds like Henry needs to contact the Fortran engineering
group directly for technical help (specifically now for the Intel compiler)
which is generating acess violations when using %REF statements. The URL pre-
sumbly given to the customer in note 3483.3 is pretty useless since it points
to resellers who can't help with technical issues, however the "Support" link
off that URL only refers you to MCS. I'm going to contact Alan C. Groves since
Henry seems to think he is their ASAP business relationship manager. It may be
that Henry needs just needs normal remedial break/fix support on the Intel
compiler via the CSC. I'm also going to send a message back to Henry with some
more detailed pointers since I found a link that suggests normal bug reports
can be mailed back to the Fortran group...

| Greetings!
I sent the following to Henry so he has somewhere to start looking on his own
for possible solutions. Once I hear back from Mark and/or Donna re: their
business relationship manager, I'll know better whether to push the customer
towards the CSC or if some other support channel should be used (perhaps
directly to/from the Fortan group?)...

Subj: Some pointers re: DIGITAL Visual Fortran...
Greetings!
Tony Swierkowski @ Digital here with some information re: the call you logged
with the ASAP Hotline re: DIGITAL Visual Fortran (on Intel). The basic starting
point on the web is at:
From there, you can get details on product information at:
The above URL has a link to DIGITAL Visual Fortran 5.0 for Windows NT and
Windows 95 (Intel) which is what you said you were having problems with. Please
correct me if this is wrong.
Also from that main page, I found a link for support at:
According to the above URL, normal remedial break/fix support on this product
(just as with any released product) is obtained through "Multivendor Customer
Services". The number given is: 1-800-344-4825, however I know that that all
trouble calls (hardware *or* software) should start at the "CSC" (i.e. "Customer
Support Center") at 1-800-354-9000. If you have a service contract or the pro-
duct is still under warranty you may want to log a call with the CSC straight
away so engineering can get engaged quickly.
Also from that main page, I found a link for contact information at:
The above URL points out that you can fill in a "template" bug report using
the file: Program Files\DevStudio\DF\BUGREPRT.TXT and mailing it to the Fortran
group at: "[email protected]".
I've started researching who your ASAP business relationship manager might
be (I struck out so far locating Alan C. Groves), but will let you know as soon
as I learn something. In the event that you need to pursue the technical bug
report/fix via the "CSC", you may need a support contract *if* the product isn't
under warranty, but perhaps mail to the Fortran "Contact Us" address noted above
might shed some light on what they can (and can't) provide versus using the
"CSC". If you don't hear back from me by week's end, send mail next Monday
and I'll escalate this, cheers...

| Greetings!
After mail to/from Martk and Donna (thanks BTW!), I did get hooked up with
Alan Groves. We talked this morning and then Alan talked with Henry. It would
appear Fortran Engineering is working directly with the customer and per Alan's
latest voicemail to me this afternoon, Henry is happy, call closed...
