Subj:	Process and Thread limit

Where the Process and Userlevel Threads limit is defined. I need to know
how many process and threads I can have at the most.

How I can change these parameters?

Now I have 64 MB RAM, if I get another 64 can I have more process and threads.
Is there any formular to calculate the kernel configuration?

Alpha Station 255, Unix 4.0 B.

Regards.

3616.1Duplicate of call #3515 (already closed)...AMCUCS::SWIERKOWSKIQuot homines tot sententiaeTue May 13 1997 13:2220
Greetings!

I've sent this person several *very* long messages re: threads (including a
message about all the process/thread related parameters straight out of the
"System Administration" manual. See call #3515 for the last call Hu logged
about threads/processes on Digital UNIX - apparently he didn't heed my advice
to read Chapter 4 in the "System Administration" manual or the "Guide to DEC-
threads" manual which answers all the questions he kept asking me ten different
ways by email over the last few weeks. I'll tack on a reply to my original
call (3515) with all the email traffic Hu & I exchanged re: threads for your
reference, cheers...

    Hu,

There are configuration attributess that you can change in the
sysconfigtab file that can be queried and manipulated with the
sysconfig and sysconfigdb commands. Please get the book entitled System
Tuning and Performance Management which should have come with your UNIX
distribution kits. If not, you can access it at our web site at:
    http://www.partner.digital.com/www-swdev/pages/Home/TECH/techsupport.html

see the parameters: max-proc-per-user, max-threads-per-user, Usually
adding more memory will allow you to boost the maximum values of
    several paramters.

    Regards, James Mikelis
