3593.0. "Global Main Tech" by HYDRA::NEWMAN (Chuck Newman, 508/467-5499 (DTN 297), MRO1-3/F26) Tue May 06 1997 18:30

Brief Description of Problem:
-----------------------------
Steve is using C++ V5.5-004 and is having a problem with the -tlocal method for
instantiation (he's also compiling with -thread, but I'm guessing that doesn't
matter).
He's using auto instantiation (at compile time).
The C++ compiler complains that it can't find definition. The error message is
something like this:
cxx error: <long-path-name>
function <fcn-name> has internal linkage, occurs in a context that requires its
definition and it has no definition
There are several notes in the C++ notes file that sound somewhat like this, but
I'm not able to find a common thread. I asked Steve to send a small reproducer.
