Brief Description of Problem:
-----------------------------
I am debugging a client written in DECC which has exhibited a memory
corruption problem on OpenVMS 6.2 and 7.0. The application of patch
VAXACRT0x_070 or ALPACRT0x_070 (where x is 2 or greater) seems to fix
the problem on version 7.0 systems. The problem is described in the
patch letter as C runtime library functions reenabling ASTs at the end
of routines which disable ASTs on entry without checking to see if ASTs
were disabled on entry to the routine.
I have not found a corresponding patch for version 6.2. The problem
seems to occur on 6.2 but not on 6.2-1H1 or 6.2-1H3.
Is there a patch appropriate for OpenVMS 6.2? Anything else I should
look at?
All help appreciated.

At Pete's request, I've been working directly with BMC.
Here's the extract from ALPACRT05_070.RELEASE_NOTES
o Many DEC C Runtime Library routines (fwrite in particular) are
mistakenly REENABLING AST delivery in the case where it was
disabled on entry to the routine.

He went on to say that he doesn't know how this section in the release notes got omitted. Please try installing (ALP,VAX)ACRT0(6,7,8)_062 and see if it fixes your problem. -- Chuck Newman | |||||
