OK, here's the latest--
(I modified dupatch a little bit-- it was looking for patchnames with 5 zeroes,
but the patch kit stuff that you have me only had 4 zeroes.)
# pwd
/patches/v4.0/patch_kit
# ./dupatch
Enter path to the patch kit (the directory containing ./kit and ./doc),
or enter "q" to quit dupatch: /patches/v4.0/patch_kit
./dupatch: /patches/v4.0/patch_kit/kit/instctrl/OSFPAT00003400400: not found
# ls -al /patches/v4.0/patch_kit/kit/instctrl/
total 13
drwxr-xr-x 2 root system 512 May 2 13:45 .
drwxr-xr-x 3 root system 512 May 2 13:45 ..
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root system 2201 Mar 3 16:19 OSF.image
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root system 0 Mar 3 16:19 OSF400.comp
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root system 366 Mar 3 16:16 OSFPAT00003400400.ctrl
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root system 80 Mar 3 16:16 OSFPAT00003400400.inv
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root system 1565 Mar 3 16:16 OSFPAT00003400400.scp
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root system 366 Mar 3 16:16 OSFPAT00003600400.ctrl
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root system 82 Mar 3 16:16 OSFPAT00003600400.inv
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root system 1565 Mar 3 16:16 OSFPAT00003600400.scp
I don't know what's missing there. There is a file that matches the filename
being checked for, but when I copied that file (from .../patch_kit/kit to
.../patch_kit/kit/instctrl)
the script bailed out on me again.
****example****
# pwd
/patches/v4.0/patch_kit
# cd kit
# ls -al

drwxr-xr-x 2 root system 512 May 2 14:06 instctrl
# cp OSF* instctrl
# ../dupatch
Enter path to the patch kit (the directory containing ./kit and ./doc),
or enter "q" to quit dupatch: /patches/v4.0/patch_kit
cd to /patches/v4.0/patch_kit/kit
ls ls OSFPAT?000*
/patches/v4.0/patch_kit/kit/instctrl/OSFPAT00003400400: syntax error at line 2:

Thanks for all your help!

This is needlessly complicated, and I have to accept some blame
I've another tar file with a slight correction to
dupatch along with some additional files which I didn't realize were
required the first time I put everything together. I will
send the new tar file in another message.
I will be at a conference next week and will not be able to
help you directly after tonight. I don't expect there to be much
of a problem since I tested this on my machine and things looked
good. If you do need help again, please call the 1-800 number as
before and reference log number 3576. Another engineer will
handle things.
My apologies.
