Comments        =  I was on
http://www.partner.digital.com/www-swdev/pages/Home/TECH/NTfocus.html
looking for Win32 on Intel vs Alpha information.

I couldn't find a list of ALL applications on Alpha NT.
http://www.workstation.digital.com/application/appavail.html
has a good list but it is only workstation related.

I looked at
www.partner.digital.com/www-swdev/files/WNT/Docs/alpha-wnt-call-std-9504
06.ps
because it said "updated" on the page. Updated? Two years ago maybe.

Also is there an updated version of
www.partner.digital.com/www-swdev/files/WNT/Docs/other/WNT-X86toAlpha.ps
as it is 3 years old and talks about 150 & 190Mhz Alphas and
windows NT 3.5. I doubt the compilers mentioned are current
and the tools have probably (hopefully) changed for the better.

I am looking for material to counter the "there's a lot of
Win32 software not on Alpha. It must be a problem to port
and support by ISVs." story.

thanks,
-ian

    Hi Ian,

The SPE-MRO center is updating the NT porting guide that includes
NT 4.0 and Visual C++ V4.x and V5.0 information. The guide is under
review now and we expect it to be out in a month.

In terms of getting useful pointers for porting applications
from x86/NT to Alpha/NT, you can at least point to your customers(for
now) to the MSDN CD (via searching the key word "alpha" or "risc"),
and/or the Visual C++ User Guide (that has more details on RISC edition)
from the Visual C++ Alpha CD.

In terms of WIN32 applications running on Alpha platform, we have about
2000 applications (according to our NT group) currently running on Alpha.
You can check ASAP NT application catalog for contact information. People
may like to choose FX!32 to run most, if not all, Intel Win32 applications
such as MS Office95, Lotus, on Alpha NT via the emulation/binary translation
    mode.

I hope I answered your questions somewhat. Thanks for your feedback.

    Regards,
    Miller
