3448.1 | not unlimited license | HYDRA::DORHAMER | Mon Apr 07 1997 15:31 | 13
We confirmed that the OSF-BASE and OSF-USR license were active. The OSF-USR license has 400 units (which is not unlimited as they thought they had). I am trying to find out how many units per user are required for the processor that they have (Alphastation 255/233), so we can determine how many users they are actually licensed for. Also, we checked the maxusers setting in the kernel configuration file. It was set to 16 users, and there were 10 users logged on at the time I spoke to John. I gave him instructions for increasing maxusers and rebuilding the kernel, and told him that I'll call him back after I check on how many users are supported for 400 units on his system. 3448.2 | four user license | HYDRA::DORHAMER | Mon Apr 07 1997 16:36 | 12
I found that "lmf list for OSF-USR" will show how many users the system is licensed for (I was looking at "lmf list full for OSF-USR" which shows number of units rather than number of users; leaving off the "full" from the command gives the number of users). I asked John to check his system and it turns out that they are only licensed for four users. He is looking for his paper pak, since he thought that he had an unlimited user license. He will work with the sales person that sold him the system to get the license he needs. Karen

#9 7-APR-1997 16:16:08.08 NEWMAIL From: GROOVE::DADDIECO "That's Just the Way It Is...." To: HYDRA::DORHAMER CC: DADDIECO Subj: RE: license units question for Alphastation 255/233 If the PAK reads ACTIVITY=CONSTANT=100 (which is should btw) and the PAK has UNITS=400 - then it's a simple division of 400/100 = 4 users. Hope this helps .. thanx ..... d. |
