Hello,
On other platforms, I have been using
sysinfo(SI_HW_SERIAL,buf,bufsize)
to get the harware serial number of a server to track licenses. My
Alphaserver 255 does not return a value to this call, and I notice in
the man page for sysinfo that SI_HW_SERIAL is not supported.
Is there an alternate, supported, way to get a serial number on DEC
ALPHA servers?
Thanks,
John Jensen

John,
re. your mail about calling sysinfo() to try to get a serial number
for Alpha systems for licensing purposes:
This is a frequently asked question, and the answer is to use the
Ethernet address. This is described on the world-wide-web page
http://www.partner.digital.com/www-swdev/pages/Home/TECH/
faqs/dunix/ethernU.html
which includes a link to a code example.
Let me know if you don't have web access and I'll mail you the
notes.
Regards,
John Wood
