Subj: Two questions

     Hi,

I just got my Alphastation 255 running and I'm ready to start a port.
For that, I have two quick questions:

     1. I have CDs for Digital UNIX 4.0A and 4.0B. I've loaded 4.0B, but
I wonder now if there are binary compatibility problems when I deliver
code to 4.0A sites. If so, now would be the time for me to back off
     4.0B and put on 4.0A.

     2. Our code uses ndbm libraries. Can you tell me which install
package to load to put them on the system?

     Thanks,

     John Jensen

    John,

If you need to support your application on both Digital UNIX v4.0A and
v4.0B, then you should build it on v4.0A. Generally we provide upward
compatibility but not backward compatibility for our operating systems.

The ndbm functions are included in libc.so, the C shared library that is
automatically installed when you install the base operating system.
There is also an ndbm.h header file that is included in the OSFINCLUDE
subset. You need to install the "Standard Header Files" subset to get this.
