    Brief Description of Problem:
    -----------------------------

Hello,

First the preliminary info :

NobleNet generates ONC/RPC client/server software that uses the UCX
libraries.

I am running OpenVMS 7.1 with UCX 4.1 - ECO Level 2.

Problem :

A server can register with both the TCP and UDP protocols and when the
server shuts down it then issues a pmap_unset. The UDP protocol is
unregistered correctly by the UCX Portmapper but the TCP entry is still
listed.

The problem that I and my customers see is that the UCX portmapper
keeps track
of the servers "PID" number and associates the number with the TCP
entry. Now if
the server tries starting under a different "DECterm or PID",
the portmapper denies access.

The only way to remove the entry is shutdown the portmapper.
On typical ONC/RPC platforms such as Unix both the TCP and UDP entries
are
 removed.

Is there is a fix ???

Al,
I have been consulting with UCX engineering on the problem regarding
unregistering a service registered with both TCP and UDP. They are a bit
perplexed on how what you claim can happen. They have asked me to ask
you for a code reproducer, the smaller the better.

Can you provide this? You can email it to "[email protected]"
and use "Call #3412" in your Subject line so that it will get routed to
me appropriately.

Thanks,
Jeff Donsbach

Not sure. The server registers with a udp and tcp connection using
ONC/RPC
and then shutsdown. One of the protocols remains.

Not sure what to do and I don't have any cycles to do this as of now.

How long can I keep the call open for ????

    Al,
You can keep the call open for as long as it takes. If you can't
provide a code example right now, you can later when you have time.
In the mean time I'll try and reproduce the problem on my own (though
the turnaround time is always a lot quicker when partner's can provide
    reproducers).

For now, are you able to work around the problem by manually
    unregistering
    the TCP service?
