3404.1 | Needs add-on "OSF-BASE" PAK's for SMP system... | AMCUCS::SWIERKOWSKI | Quot homines tot sententiae | Wed Mar 26 1997 14:29 | 42 |
| Greetings!
Per a call back from Harold this morning, here is some slightly updated
contact information:

Brief Description of Problem:
-----------------------------
I confirmed that this is some kind of AlphaServer (Harold wasn't near the
system) and it does have 2 (or more) CPU's running Digital UNIX (not sure about
the version either).
I suspect he needs additional "OSF-BASE" PAK's with the correct number of
add-on UNITS to accomodate the add-on CPU(s). I asked him to call me back with
the system serial number and the exact model so I could verify this is a "seed"
system. I'm not sure if the normal "seed" PAK script covers SMP systems, so I
also gave him Connie Davis's number so if need be a "custom" OSF-BASE PAK can
be ordered for the add-on CPU's, cheers...

| Tony,
If it turns out they are an ASAP member with the ASAP UNIX SDK, then no
OSF-BASE PAK is provided.

3404.3 | This is a "seed" system (I'm told)... | AMCUCS::SWIERKOWSKI | Quot homines tot sententiae | Thu Mar 27 1997 20:20 | 24 |
| Greetings!
I should have been more clear in my base note. Harold told my co-worker (who
was onsite) that this is a "seed" system, so she contacted me. I knew that the
ASAP SDK didn't include an "OSF-BASE", but if this was a "seed" system at least
the basic OSF-BASE license for a uni-processor should have accompanied the
system. All I asked my co-worker (and Harold) for was a system serial number
so I could verify that it was indeed a "seed" system and that I could mail him
the "Seed PAK's" if the system checked out. I also pointed out that if this was
a "seed" system, he could contact Connie Davis (i.e. Seed Unit Program) directly
to get the add-on OSF-BASE PAK's he needs for the add-on CPU's. The basic
system (w/ 1 CPU) needs an OSF-BASE license with 400 "units", each additional
CPU requires another OSF-BASE license with 100 units and they all need to be
loaded to get his multi-processor working correctly. I suspect he either didn't
load the "add-on" OSF-BASE license(s) or misplaced them. I'll call him back
tomorrow or Monday and verify his status with this...

3404.4 | Call closed... | AMCUCS::SWIERKOWSKI | Quot homines tot sententiae | Fri Mar 28 1997 17:57 | 18 |
| Greetings!
Harold responded to my email and I think he is okay. His message included
a message from someone else (i.e. "Jim Mcandrew" - [email protected])
who mailed someone at MARC ("Paul Vanderwalt") the normal Digital UNIX "Seed"
script which included an "OSF-BASE" PAK with 0 units. Harold said he had
installed it yesterday and was loading software today so I presume he got his
SMP box working, I'm closing this for now...
