I have ported WordPerfect 7 GUI interface to Digital Unix 3.2G. It runs
fine on 3.2G, but when we try to run on 4.0A or 4.0B we get an error during
startup then a segmentation violation and core dump. WP is dynamicly
linked to X11R5 libraries. I believe the problem is that the libraries on
4.0 are X11R6. Is there a solution to this problem short of rebuilding WP
on 4.0?

Thank you, in advance, for your response.

Brett,

Thank you for you inquiry to Digital's Association of Software and Application
Partners. It seems, according to our database, that your company sdcorp is not
currently a member of our program.

There are two levels of membership, basic membership and the SDK subscription.
Basic membership gets you technical support while the SDK subscription gives
you licenses for the development releted subsets for Digital Unix or OpenVMS.
You need to hold a Base OS license of your own. The SDK subscription is not
very useful unless you have a Digital Unix/Alpha machine of your own very
useful unless you have a Digital Unix/Alpha machine of your own
(obviously). ASAP program membership also entitles you to discounts on Digital
hardware and software.

To find out more about the program, check out our Web site at
   http://www.partner.digital.com/www-swdev

When you think you are ready to join the program call 1-800-332-4786
and a member of our staff will assist you by describing the membership
criteria, providing details of our program, and mail or fax you a membership
kit.

In the meantime, you might want to verify that this is a X11R6 issue by seeing
if you can redisplay to a 4.0 system.

Regards,

Donna Van Orden

Brett,

Thank you for the clarification.

I cannot find any documentation stating that changes to your application
are required as a result of Digital UNIX now supporting Release 6 of the
X Window System, Version 11 (X11R6) patchlevel 12.

In addition to the previous suggestion of verifing that this is a X11R6
issue by seeing if you can redisplay to a 4.0 system, I'd like to add that
you can further troubleshoot the problem by linking statically rather than
dynamically.

Please let us know the results of your testing, and reference log number
1997-3376.

Thank you,

Donna,

I staticly linked the executable. It now seems to run fine on DU 4.0b, but
we have only done some preliminary testing. We will have a better feel for
stability after our testing people run it through a vigorous testing
procedure.

Thanks for your help and concern.
