Brief Description of Problem:

Their customer experiences a crash of their application when in File
Selection Dialog, which makes a call to XmFileSelectionBox. The problem does
not occur when running this function in character mode. They feel the problem
has to do with Motif 1.2-4. They have not yet duplicated the problem on their
system which is running OpenVMS v6.1 and Motif 1.2-2. There are no functions
left on the stack trace.
Status:
These are my action items:
1. Is Motif bundled with OpenVMS (I believe it is). If it is not bundled,
will OpenVMS v6.1 support Motif 1.2-4 ?
2. Are there any known problems with XmFileSelectionBox ?
(I searched - none are reported)
Their action items:
1. Determine what percentage of the time the problem occurs
2. Determine the exact sequence of events which cause the crash
(Perhaps this particular customer uses this function differently than other
customers do, resulting in the crash...and explaining why they cannot
duplicate the problem)
3. They will check with their local digital contacts to see if they can borrow
a system to duplicate the problem
(Their application takes a lot to set up so they would like to do this
locally rather than using our porting center).

Greetings! I assume the customer is running OpenVMS Alpha V6.1 (vs OpenVMS VAX V6.1). If so, then they can't use DECwindows/Motif V1.2-4. The minimum version of OpenVMS Alpha they can install DECwindows/Motif V1.2-4 on is V6.2 (see note 5519.0 in the BULOVA::DECWINDOWS conference). DECwindows/Motif is a seperate layered product that is on the Software Pro- ducts Library, but it (and a few other things like POSIX and UCX) are also present on the OpenVMS Alpha distribution CD. Called the customer and gave him the results of my investigation and
the information provided by Tony on compatibility of Motif and OpenVMS
(Thanks Tony!). We agreed to close this for now as they pursue it
further with their enduser and local Digital contacts. They will call
back if they need additional help from us.
