Forwarded the problem to the project lead of 4d40T and still waiting
for a response. It's critical to them to have an answer asap.
Context of their problem:
" We are also working on a stereo implementation on an Alpha, under Digital
UNIX, using a PowerStorm 4D40T. One of my Software Engineers, Nancy
Kusnierz, called you yesterday about the fact that the xdm-errors file shows
that our 4D40T has no texture memory, when indeed it apparently has 16 Mb.
I understand from Nancy that you are researching this issue. We need access
to that texture memory, but we are unsure at this time whether X and/or
OpenGL realize that there is texture memory on the board.
We discovered another problem this morning. Using the plane.c stereo test
program which is listed in the "PowerStorm 4D 40/50/60T Application Notes
for OpenGL Stereo Rendering" document obtained from the service.digital.com
web site, we can view the airplane in stereo. But, this test program tells
us that OpenGL thinks that stereo is not enabled (from testing the GL_STEREO
bit), even though stereo clearly is enabled."

Miller -
I was in touch with you last week about the testing of the MicroStation 95
for Digital UNIX.
We are also working on a stereo implementation on an Alpha, under Digital
But, this test program tells
us that OpenGL thinks that stereo is not enabled (from testing the GL_STEREO
bit), even though stereo clearly is enabled.
It is extremely important that we get some answers on these problems. We
plan to show our stereo application at a trade show beginning April 7, which
is only two weeks away. Every day of delay is critical at this point. It
would be most helpful if we could make direct contact with someone in
Digital's Graphics Engineering group who is very familiar with the OpenGL
Stereo implementation in the Open3D field test kit that we are using.
Please let Nancy or I know what you have found out by the end of the day
(Friday April 21).
Thanks for your help.

Hi All,
I'd like to thank you all for helping this ISV. Vision
told me that they have been successfully build their
stereo application on DUNIX /Alpha today.
Thanks to the folk (?) who called Vision last friday
to help.
1. Their 4d40t cards has no texture memory so GE capital was wrong
quoting 16MB.
2. They will ignore the stereo error for now. A patch
will be provided to them (via me?) next week. They
are all set.
Thanks for the team work.
P.S. Vision has an neat application that demonstrate excellent
graphics performance now on Digital UNIX on their alpha (?)
compared to an older SGI system. They will come up with
a std benchmark later for me to test.
