To whom it may concern,
Are all of the necessary tools and documentation for developing a
device driver provided in the SDK available to ASAP members?
Thanks in advance!

To whom it may concern,
I am attempting to build a "setld distribution kit" and am having a
question as to how to set a particular file characteristic:
When the "kits" command is run, it generates the inventory file
based on the current file atrtibutes. Specifically "user id"
is specified numerically.
Problem: I want to specify a "text user ID" since the user ID
that the files should belong to may not have the same numeric user
ID as the system generating the kit. Ex: I want the file to
belong to "joe". My UID for joe may be 300, but on the customer's
system it may be 400.
Question: Must I always edit the ".inv" inventory files manually
after execution of the "kits" command? Or is there some other
proper method to specify the user name?
Thanks in advance!!

| nb the basenote contains two problems, one with device drivers, one with
setld. I'll use this topic just for the device driver one, I've entered
a new note (3319) for the setld one

Subj: RE: Driver Driver kit part of SDK?
Hello Doyle Davidson
Thank-you for your ASAP query on device driver documentation (I'll reply to the
one on "setld" separately).
I don't think there's anything in the ASAP SDK specifically relating to device
drivers. You can find the contents of the SDK on the web at :
http://www.partner.digital.com/www-swdev/pages/Home/ASAP/unix_sdk_contents.html
which is one of the pages you can get to from the main Digital Software
Developer pages (see "http://www.partner.digital.com/www-swdev/")
What is probably more useful is the standard Unix documentation set, which
ships on the CDs with the operating system, and contains a section on "Driver
Documentation", which has the following manuals:
Writing Device Drivers: Tutorial
Writing Device Drivers: Reference
Writing Device Drivers: Advanced Topics
Writing Device Drivers for the SCSI/CAM Architecture
Writing EISA and ISA Bus Device Drivers
Writing PCI Bus Device Drivers
Writing TURBOchannel Device Drivers
Writing VMEBus Device Drivers
I am not aware of any specific extra products you can buy that would constitute
a driver developer kit, or "DDK".
I hope this information is helpful to you
