--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thank you for your prompt reply. I have been getting a bit of a
runaround from various groups at Digital so it is nice to have someone
reply so quickly. The answer to the two questions you asked are as
follows:
1. I believe the Alphaserver is a model 400
2. As far as where the program runs, the following configurations have
been confirmed by SKY here in Chelmsford and Philips in The Netherlands
OKAY: DEC3000 Model 400 with OpenVMS 6.1
DEC3000 Model 600 with OpenVMS 6.1
Not OK: AlphaServer 4/233 with OpenVMS 6.2
The following configuration has only been tested by Philips in The
Netherlands
Not OK: DEC3000 Model 600 with OpenVMS 6.2
This does not involve an SMP system. I don't have the exact firmware
revisions of the units in question. The nature of the problem is that
in a AST routine that is the result of a QIO to the GK driver, we
attempt to do a read() system call to an open file. The first time this
is done everything is fine. The second time this is done, some of the
data returned is from the first read.
If you have any ideas or know of someone internal/external to Digital
that might be able to help me, I would appreciate your help.
Thanks again for the prompt response.

Technical support is limited to members of the ASAP program (call 800/332-4786
to join). I don't find a record of your membership so technically I'm not
supposed to offer you help.
That said, have you read the OpenVMS V6.2 release notes? Section 4.11 says that
SCSI device drivers need to be modified, and it talks about what needs to be
done.
If you need access to a V6.2 system, feel free to sign up for the porting center
by calling the same phone number. You don't need to be a member of the ASAP
program. We can provide access to OpenVMS source listings if you need them.
Hope this helps!

Chuck;
This just came into the war room - a account you are supporting.
I will post this as a reply to the notes stream.
By copy of this note, I am asking Donna and the porting center to call
this account and invite them to visit the porting center. Please assess before
making the call that we have a configuration that can meet their needs. Do we
have an avanti that has this rough configuration?

Chuck,
I finally have the paperwork in front of me that says our customer code
number is 131614 and our program access code is 324970. What I would
like to be able to do is have an Avanti (similar to the model I
mentioned in my previous email) with a KZPSA (PCI Differential SCSI
adapter) in it. If it had OpenVMS 6.2 and any related SCSI patches
loaded, I would like to try bringing our equipment and software, loading
it and running it. Is this something I can coordinate with you or should
I be talking to someone else.
In reference to your last email, we don't actually have our own SCSI
device driver. We use the GK (PK?) driver provide with OpenVMS
IO$_DIAGNOSE option to the QIO to pass in our own SCSI cdb. As such, I
wouldn't think we were subject to section 4.11 of the OpenVMS 6.2
Release Notes.
Looking forward to hearing from you soon
Darrell
