3252.1 | Suspect unsupported configuration... | AMCUCS::SWIERKOWSKI | Quot homines tot sententiae | Fri Feb 28 1997 15:46 | 20 |
| Greetings!
After a heads up from Russ I plowed though note 98.* in the PARTNER_EXCELLENCE
conference on HDLITE looking for TIMA Blitz'es against 4100's (w/ Windows NT)
and sure enough, note 98.432 (dated 12/11/96) says the final release bits for
Windows NT 4.0 are *NOT* qualified on an AlphaServer 4100. Service Pack 1 and
Service Pack 2 do *NOT* fix the problem.
On a hunch while still waiting on detailed configuration information solicited
in a second message I had sent to Bill, I sent a third message asking about the
version of Windows NT he's running and sent him the gist of the problem descrip-
tion detailed in the Blitz. I'll know more when he gets back to me...

3252.2 | Unsupported configuration confirmed... | AMCUCS::SWIERKOWSKI | Quot homines tot sententiae | Fri Feb 28 1997 19:15 | 36 |
| Greetings!
Per a message I sent to Bill last night soliciting detailed configuration
information on all of his systems, the Prioris servers (2) he has are:
Vital stats on the AlphaServer:
System type: AlphaServer 4100 5/300
Memory: 1024 total - not sure how it is layed out
PCI Controllers: Not sure
Layout of Storage: 4 - RZ28D-VW 2GB drives external. Not sure what could
be internal.
OS: NT4.0 build 1381. Service Pack 2 was just installed
about a week ago. Prior to that no service packs were
installed.
FWIW, according Bill's own feedback and per the TIMA Blitz I referenced in
the previous reply, unless the a bug fix has come out since that Blitz, he's
running an unsupported configuration. Oddly enough, Bill did state that he
did not have any Service Packs installed until a week ago when they installed
Service Pack 2. Since then, they have had no "blue screen crashes" but did
note that the system had gotten hung up when trying to install SQL server. A
reboot seemed to fix and that problem hasn't resurfaced. He was pretty sure
the error that I had described (i.e. KMODE_EXECPTION_NOT_HANDLED) seemed very
familiar to him. I'll do some more research and see if any kind of a fix has
been made available since that Blitz was sent out last December and get back
to him...

3252.3 | Work-around found, awaiting feedback... | AMCUCS::SWIERKOWSKI | Quot homines tot sententiae | Wed Mar 05 1997 15:12 | 26 |
| Greetings!
I did some research on this problem since the TIMA Blitz describing it seemed
to match the symptoms Bill is experiencing. After a little digging around,
there are two "fixes" for this problem:
1) Wait until Service Pack 3 comes out.
2) Apply Service Pack 2 and then apply a post-SP2 "hot-fix" described in
another TIMA Blitz. See the HDLITE::PARTNER_EXCELLENCE conference,
note #98.432 announces the "bug" and note #98.466 describes the work-
around.
As of today, Microsoft's ftp site still doesn't have a "SP3" available, but
both "SP2" and the "hot-fix" are available. I've sent mail to Bill and await
a response...

3252.5 | No response, call closed... | AMCUCS::SWIERKOWSKI | Quot homines tot sententiae | Tue Mar 18 1997 19:27 | 17 |
| Greetings!
It's been about a week since my last email "ping" asking if I could close this
call. I assume they would have yelled by now if the "fix" I sent them two weeks
ago didn't work. Call closed...
