| Greetings!
Got a call back from Wayne, he's not even sure if the device (not a Digital
disk, but some 3'rd party 4GB disk instead) shows up at the console. He'll
verify that it does. He did some playing around and got as far as having
disklabel report back drive characteristics, but what came back doesn't jive
with the real drive's characteristics. He's going to play around a bit more
and possibly take a stab at relabeling the disk so it reflects the correct
drive geometry information after looking in /etc/disktab to verify that there
is an entry for a disk with his characteristics. He'll call me back if he gets
stuck, cheers...

| There is a FAQ on the ASAP web page that tells how to mount foreign disks.
This should work on 3.2X. It does not work on 4.OX where there is a
known problem with disklabel. See note 3210.3 in this conference for a
good workaround. See UNIX conference note 8865 for a good discussion of
the $.) problem

3228.3 | Awaiting feedback from customer... | AMCUCS::SWIERKOWSKI | Quot homines tot sententiae | Tue Feb 25 1997 12:16 | 17 |
| Greetings!
Thanks for the pointer(s)! I've sent more mail to the customer asking if
he was successful yesterday after we spoke and if not, I paraphrased the work-
around in note 3210.3. FWIW, note 8865.* in the DIGITAL_UNIX conference seems
specific to foreign disks on V4.0 systems and that on V3.2 systems disklabel
dealt with foreign disks okay. Wayne is running on a V3.2 system, so he may
have a different problem. Awaiting feedback from the customer...
