    Brief Description of Problem:
    -----------------------------

Needs help installing Windows NT. Getting "Error 4". Left him my direct
number so he call me back without rolling over to the east coast after 17:00
since he is local to our office, telephone tag in progress...

3216.1Probably an ECU (for NT) issue...AMCUCS::SWIERKOWSKIQuot homines tot sententiaeWed Feb 19 1997 14:1927
Greetings!

Finally got to speak with Jeff re: his installation woes and per some research
I'd done in the MVBLAB::SABLE (specifically note 1461.*), his error is identical
to the one described in that base note. I believe the problem is his system
came/was ordered as a Digital UNIX/OpenVMS system (and hence had the ECU disk-
ette for Digital UNIX/OpenVMS) but no ECU diskette for Windows NT is present.

I walked him through toggling back and forth between booting Windows NT and
Digital UNIX/OpenVMS as far (re)running the correct ECU diskette goes and left
him with part numbers for both the "Alpha Firmware CD" kit and the "EISA Config-
uration Utility" kit so he can get both ECU diskettes needed for all 3 operating
systems. I also gave him the URL for the "Alpha Firmware Internet Readme" so
he can at least get newer versions of the stuff on the "Firmware Update Utility
CD-ROM". I didn't even think to ask whether or not he has a RAID controller
(like the SWXCR-xx) and hence he may also need some sort of "RAID Configuration
Utility Kit" (i.e. "RCU"). He'll call back if gets wedged again, cheers...

3216.2Call closed...AMCUCS::SWIERKOWSKIQuot homines tot sententiaeFri Feb 21 1997 12:4915
Greetings!

Jeff called me again yesterday with a related set of firmware questions but
on an AlphaServer 2000. I believe he is all set now, call closed...
