Subject: Question on V3.0/4.0 Compatibility
Mime-Version: 1.0
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"

We are currently considering migrating our development from
DEC OSF V3.x to Digital Unix 4.0. In general, it looks like a
good thing to do. However, some of our customers still have requirements
to support V3.0. Is there any practical way that we can develop
on 4.0 with some degree of assurance that our application
will run on 3.0.

I realize that this form of backward compatibility is pretty rare,
but any information that you can give us that would help us in
our decision would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Richard T. Simpson [email protected]

Richard,

Unfortunately, Digital does not guarantee backward compatibility. Because of
this, we are unable to provide documentation on developing applications to be
backward compatible. I've looked around and only found information on Digital's
upward compatibility guarantees (i.e. 3.2C applications run on 4.0). If you are
interested in this, let us know.

Thanks.
