We do not have experience with the details regarding why the SGI tapes might not be readable by this utility. The one thing which comes to mind is that the VMSTAR utility is expecting the tape to have a particular blocking factor. This is the "b" switch in most tar facilities. Do you also have the help file for VMSTAR? It discusses it a bit. To answer your quesstion directly, no we don't have experience with transferring from SGI to VMS.
