68.0. "Potential Activity - Always... Patsy Cline at ASF in Milford NH" by WAYLAY::GORDON (Resident Lightning Designer) Mon Jun 02 1997 15:36

Is there any interest in going to see "Always... Patsy Cline" at ASF?
I can probably get us the group discount even if we don't strictly meet the
group requirements. Full price tickets (evenings) are $20 - $26. The show
runs June 5 - 15th.

The theater is in Milfor NH, 15 miles west of downtown Nashua. I can
probably arrange crash space for two folks who don't mind sharing a room at
my place in Nashua if need be.

Like the other big-ticket activities, this would require money up
front, no refunds. I'd be willing to make the arrangements.

There's an additional option: Saturday June 7th is the ASF Country
Jamboree. For $40 you get a barbecue dinner, entertainment by a country-western
band, country line dancing, a silent auction and a ticket to the show. That
starts at 5:30 on the 7th. (I probably can't get a group discount on this.)
I will most likely be at the Jamboree regardless of who else shows.

Let me know if you're interested in attending, either through mail or
by posting here.

In case it wasn't clear - I'll be there the 7th because I'm considered
"staff" (albeit unpaid staff) at ASF. I'm perfectly willing to deal with a
group wanting to come on another day.

Yeah, right. You'll be there on the 7th to join in on the line
    dancing. You can't fool us.

68.8What is ASF?DASXPS::MCNAUGHTON_WTue Jun 03 1997 10:5112
Okay, what does ASF stand for? I love any form of country music and
have for all my life. Grew up on it. Love blue grass. When my
children were young, travelled to all the blue grass festivals and
rough camping we could find. Sometimes really rough camping--water
being brought in by the truck load. Bathing only in a stream. But
it was fun and we have great memories. I might be interested in the
barbeque, et all on Saturday depending on what time my Lab is to be
shown in Connecticut. If his time is after 10AM; I would like to
travel to watch him; if his time on is 8:00 am; forget it; these 4AM
starts to my days are killing me. The 9 week old Lab puppy thinks
its play time at 4:00 am.

Is this the show with Sandy Martin, or is it a different headliner?
Martin is/was the woman doing the performance in MA for at least a
couple years now (whom I'd asked you about before Doug, but couldn't
remember her name). She's supposed to be fabulous in the role, witty,
funny, with a great voice that's at least a reasonable fascimile of
    Cline's.

It's not looking good for me on those dates but if this is the Sandy
Martin show I might try real hard to make it (but probably on Mon
or Wed of next week, if it's running then).

68.10Live Theater - It Won't Kill YouWAYLAY::GORDONResident Lightning DesignerTue Jun 03 1997 12:0818
ASF is American Stage Festival. It's one of the few remaining
professional theater companies in NH. Their summer home is in Milford NH in
a 500+ seat theater on the banks of the Souhegan river. Their winter home
(including offices and scene/costume shops) are in what used to be the Nashua
Center for the Arts on Court Street in Nashua. Court Street includes a 277
seat 3/4-thrust theater.

Rusti Rae is the lead in this production. (Hope I got her name right -
I'm doing it from memory.) I was told she played the role in Nashville, so
she's probably good. The theater is dark on Mondays (the traditional Equity day
off) but there are shows Tues - Sun including matinees on Wed and Sun.

There are 5 more shows this summer - "Tea & Sympathy", "Accomplice",
"All in the Timing", a musical (replacing "Cabaret") [I know what it will
probably be but I don't think it's been officially announced yet.], and
"Moon Over Buffalo."

Thanks Doug... I'd say then there's a good chance I'll be there next
Wed evening (maybe with my Dad, who was a big fan of the real thing).
But seeing as how there's not likely to be much group interest for
that night, I guess I'll just buy at the gate.

    You're working all the shows?

Nope - once they go up I become audience. I have run the light board
on occaision for shows in Nashua but there is a large intern company in the
summer so they have plenty-o-bodies.

I'm not crazy over country music, but love a good theatre production.

Glenn (or anyone else), I would be interested in making it a weeknight
next week. My weekends are kind of coagulated now right up until the
    4th of July. Doesn't it figure...*that's* the weekend I don't have
any plans for between now and the end of July!

Anywho, I digress. Maybe next Tuesday, the 10th?

oops..just re-read your note Glenn. We could aim at Wednesday
    the 11th.

The 12th we have a dinner meeting for the rafting trip, so I
had suggested Tuesday so as not to be "out" two nights in a row.
But it seems Tuesday is not good for you, so Wednesday works.

Okay, I'm planning on Wednesday (really the only night I can make it).
I probably won't be able to confirm 100% until next Monday, if that's
    alright.

I've always liked Patsy Cline's songs and I wouldn't even necessarily
call them "country" as they're classics for ballads and love songs at
    this point...
