66.0. "MEMORIAL WEEKEND BBQ" by CSLALL::JACQUES_CA (Crazy ways are evident) Tue May 13 1997 17:27

Well, I'm going to go for it!

Decided to have a bbq on Sunday, May 25th. This will be a family
event, kids of all ages welcome. I live in Nashua, NH.

That night is the (most incredible!) fireworks show in Manchester,
so we'll be trooping out up to that afterward.

BBQ time will be 2:00 (negotiable on that one), and we'll probably
head up to the show around 6:30. It gets PACKED at the show, so the
    sooner we leave, the better.

The BBQ itself is going to have to be pulled together by all of
us, with bring your own alcohol. Other beverages will be part of
the list. Like, so-and-so is bringing soda, or something like
    that.

I have a huge yard, so anything you have for outdoor entertainment
is welcome. I have a set of yard games - badminton net with some
rackets and birdies, volleyball, and some other games for the
younger ones. This is a "five in one" type set up that you'd pick
    up at K-mart.

There is a pool in our park, if it ever gets hot enough. I'd have
to find out if it will be open by then.

The park itself is very nice and safe if you have younger ones that
would like to bring bikes along.

And that's about all I can think of for now. I'm having this
regardless of size of interest. If it's just BobB and Jocelyn,
me and Angeline - so be it! :-)

Fireworks rain date is Monday night and as time goes by, I may
also figure on moving my bbq to that day. I just don't know if
in the meanwhile some other plans could come up for that day.

So it's up to you all now. If you'd like to participate, sign
    in please!

While I'm here, please put me down as a probable attendee for the BBQ.

Off-line discussions with Jan brought up the possibility for some
bicycling in the nearby Mine's Falls area if anyone's interested.

    Thanks,

But the good news is that you all have probably been spared having to
listen to Atlant and I debate NH politics at the BBQ.

Count me in!! I'll bring a Greek salad (you didn't actually say, but it
sounded like you meant for this to be a potluck).

I'll also bring my croquet set.

I'm *psyched* for the fireworks. Missed them last year. CJ's right - these are
the best fireworks I've ever seen!!

you have a huge yard for games. I will bring my normal size Bocce balls for
all to play with. CJ if it looks like there is something for food that is missing

The fireworks are put on by Rock 101 WGIR and Atlas fireworks.
They synchronize them with music on the radio. It's really kewl!
I take my son and friends every year. Two years ago they had
fireworks lined up across the bridge over the merrimack. They
spewed sparks down into the river, gave the effect of a waterfall...
    it was awesome!!!!

Good fireworks, good food, great time!

    Hi all,

Add one more to the list and 1-2 possible children {with none of my
own.. I rent them for days/weekends}. I'll confirm with them this
weekend and let you know for sure. Auntie has a birthday party to
attend on that Saturday and 1-3 nephews hide in my car when it's time
to leave...there's no telling how many will actually be in there...

I'll bring a macaroni salad and some chips. In looking at the name list,
I'm wondering if one grill will be enough? I'm not sure I could get mine
in my car but maybe someone has one they can bring? Just a thought..

I'm also willing to chip in on the meats. Let me know if there's
    anything else?

    Stephanie,

I was thinking the same thing on my way in this morning. If
Jill and Danny can make it, I can get them to bring their grill
along in the truck, but that's not a certainty at this point.

If anyone else *is* able to - speak up! We can work out a
way to get it there earlier than the guests arrive.

Well Barb, I've been missing *most* of them :->

I meant to ask you to bring the scoreboard.

I think I may have the grill issue straightened out.

Somebody asked, off-line, who AJ is..that's Atlant's son.

STephanie sent me a nice note off-line and I will get back
to you Steph as today allows. Just very busy. I do believe
I have the plastic utensils (forks, knives, spoons).

Tables and chairs I usually borrow from our clubhouse and have
am awaiting a callback to confirm that I have those booked for
    the day.

I have put on Angeline's christening and birthday parties with
the help of those tables chairs and clubhouse - so I'm getting to
be quite adept at being "houseman". :-) When I have a "family
function" like that, we generally number around 55 people (immediate
family and few friends), so those issues have long been settled.

I will try to get another updated list together by Monday morning
so we can see how this is all shaping up. If you need to do
"shopping" this weekend, however. Contact me off-line with any
questions because I may not be in here much today.

66.37another quick note...CSLALL::JACQUES_CACrazy ways are evidentFri May 16 1997 11:2114
To answer one more off-line question.... the reason I
asked kids ages was for food planning and kid "coercing".

"Yes honey, there will be other kids there your age", or
"there's no one for you to play with - bring your bike!" ;->

But as food count goes, teen-agers (like the lovely Jocelyn),
will be figured as adults. Kids, like Angeline and Corey,
will be figured as "I think Joyce is going to need TWO chocolate
    cakes" :-) (just kidding there)..

I'm sure you catch my drift.

    Hi Wendy,

Well, it probably depends on what's wrong with your grill. Mine
just needs to be checked and cleaned and probably refilled. If

That and beefy things tend to be neater things to eat... My
BBQ chicken wings are very messy but oh soooo good :-) I may make two
different kinds if I can dig up two suitable marinade recipes.. If

Add 1 more adult (?) to the list. My friend Kathy is going to join us.
    (She was at Barb's 3/15 party.) She's bringing a veggie tray. I'll add a
Cherry YumYum to the list since Bob isn't bringing his pies ;^(.
(Besides, according to my family... you can't have a Memorial Day BBQ
    without it....)

We'll have the Cherry YumYum this time and hold him to his pie for the
next BBQ!!! Hmmmmm.. I could always use blueberries instead of
    cherries......

Ok, try again...had some typos if you caught this before I
    deleted....

I am going to use Monday as a raindate if the fireworks are
moved. Radio station 101.1 (WGIR) will be announcing if they
    are moved due to rain.

The Boston Herald today says that Sunday will be in the 70's
    and sunny.

I am going to be out on Friday. Please get any add-on's or
"what I'm bringing" to me by then. Otherwise, I'm sure Barb
Asketh or Joyce Dewitt will be able to pass anything on to
me as they both have my home phone number and I expect Joyce
will be logging in on Saturday???? (I know you two don't mind
my volunteering you like that. :-) ).

Hmmm... I forget what my last note just said...

Well, I'll get a distribution list with directions done by
    tomorrow.

Great BBQ party, cj! And you were right about the fireworks.
Outstanding! It was also good getting up there with people who
know where to park and where to sit/set up camp. The view from
practically ground zero is hard to beat. I can still feel those
explosions reverberating in my skull. ;-)

Bob, Brian and Barb ran the grills expertly. Turnout wasn't what
we had hoped, but I think we all understand that Monday was bad
for some due to other engagements. Still, there was a good crew
of about a dozen adults and half a dozen kids. Only a handful of
