34.9Dancing feet - still can keep upSUBSYS::HOUBREMon Jan 27 1997 11:5212
    Hi, I thought I might as well get in here and let people know that I
    exist. I have been reading for a while but, being over fifty makes me
    hesitate also.

    I know how you feel, joyce, about feeling out of place when no one is
    in your age bracket.

    I would love to find a group of people who would like to go dancing,
    it's one of my most favorite things to do. I only hope some of us are
    in the Worcester/Shrewsbury area.

34.10Anyone else???SKETCH::MOISANMon Jan 27 1997 12:1015
    Welcome Marianne!
    Thanks for your input.

    I'm from Leominster but have done a little traveling to dances such as
    in Marlboro, Westford and Nashua (but I won't go alone). I'd be happy
    to post notices on dances usually attended by the "elderly" in this
    note as I hear of them, or for that matter, other gatherings.

    Sure wish there were more readers out there who would drop in and say
    "hi" and to let us know of their interests where some of us could get
    together for social activities.

    Thanks,

    Gerri

    Gosh, That quote sure doesn't make me feel good --"Elderly" --Ohh, I
    certainly don't feel that way.

    I have gone to ShBooms and danced all night and had a great time except
    for being one of the minority "older people". Now doesn't that sound a
    little better.

    Marianne :-)
34.12The "Older", not "Elderly" CrowdSKETCH::MOISANMon Jan 27 1997 13:2311
    Sorry 'bout that. I don't feel that way either ....just distinguishing
    from the "young-uns". I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who
    feels out of place with the younger crowd and that the feeling is
    mutual. Not that either set has ill feelings about the other age
    group, either. It's just the way it is! When out in social settings,
    I think we tend to feel more comfortable with people in our particular
    age bracket and are looking for companionship with people who have similar
    interests.

    Later,

34.13Over 50, but not ready to act like itMROA::GREGOIRECindy Gregoire - DTN:297-4382Tue Jan 28 1997 13:0016
    Hi,

    	I'm pleased to see this note as well. Being 52 and separated
    for just about a year, it's sometimes difficult to find people in this
    age group to do things with. Most of my friends are married.

    	I live in Hudson, Ma. One son who graduated from college last May
    and moved to California so he can surf year round.

    	My interests include dancing, taking my labs for walks, riding my
    motorcycle, movies, cooking, and working with my hands. For example I
    like to build furniture from kits. Love vacationing in the Caribbean.
    Have also started working out three days a week. It's great for
    relieving every day stress.

    	Cindy

    	Hi,

    	I guess I one of the in-betweens (47 in two weeks....).  I've
    	thought about some of the outings the 30 something's have planned
    	but have not made it yet. They just seem too ambitious! Seems
    	like I'm sleepy by the time tey are getting started!

    	Living south of Worcester is a problem as well. Or maybe just
    	a convenient excuse to not go out in the cold!

    	I keep reading though, and one of these day's I'll make it
    	to one of the events.

34.15Not an exclusive noteSKETCH::MOISANMon Feb 03 1997 10:2118
    Hi Mary,
    Thanks for signing in. We're glad to have you.

    For clarification purposes, this is in no way intended to exclude
    anyone under the age of 50, but to be used as a forum and means of
    introduction to those of us whose interests may be different or who
    feel uncomfortable hanging out with the younger set.

    Actually, I had hoped we could use this as a vehicle to get together
    as older singles for socializing and sharing common interests and
    problems.

    Keep adding your intro's and comments and let's see how this evolves.

    Thanks,

    Gerri

34.16Over 50 and enjoying it!CSLALL::MCNAUGHTON_WFri Feb 07 1997 16:1114
    Just turned 50 this past year. Would like to meet people who live in
    the Nashua/Fitchburg area since that is where I moved to a few years
    ago and don't know anyone there in my age group to socialize with.

    Enjoy walking my Labradors--17 of them. Spending time with my grand
    daughter and my children. Like watching football with my son and his
    family.

    Would like to meet a group for dinner, a pop and some music.

    I am more of a reader of these notes than a participant but will answer
    occasionally.

    Wendy
