| >One Headlight
by Jakob Dylan
So long ago, I don't remember when
That's when they say I lost my only friend
Well they said she died easy of a broken heart disease
As I listened through the cemetery trees
I seen the sun comin' up at the funeral at dawn
The long broken arm of human law
Now it always seemed such a waste
She always had a pretty face
So I wondered how she hung around this place
Chorus:
Hey, come on try a little
Nothing is forever
There's got to be something better than
In the middle
But me & Cinderella
We put it all together
We can drive it home
With one headlight
She said it's cold
It feels like Independence Day
And I can't break away from this parade
But there's got to be an opening
Somewhere here in front of me
Through this maze of ugliness and greed
And I seen the sun up ahead
At the county line bridge
Sayin' all there's good and nothingness is dead
We'll run until she's out of breath
She ran until there's nothin' left
She hit the end-it's just her window ledge
(chorus)
Well this place is old
It feels just like a beat up truck
I turn the engine, but the engine doesn't turn
Well it smells of cheap wine & cigarettes
This place is always such a mess
Sometimes I think I'd like to watch it burn
I'm so alone, and I feel just like somebody else
Man, I ain't changed, but I know I ain't the same
But somewhere here in between the city walls of dyin' dreams
I think of death-it must be killin' me<
(chorus)

Awesome.. she has an unbelievable voice:
Samain Nights:
When the moon on a cloud cast night
Shines above the tree tops height
you sang me of some distant past
that made my heart beat strong and fast
now I know I'm home at last
You offered me an eagle's wing
that to the sun I might soar and sing
and if I heard the owl's cry
into the forest I would fly
and in its darkness find you by.
and so our love's not a simple thing
Nor our truths unwavering
But like the moon's pull on the tide
Our fingers touch our hearts collide
I'll be a moonsbreadth from your side

| What Might Have Been
Sure I think about you now & then
but, its been a long, long time
I've got a good life now I've moved on
So, when you cross my mind
I try not to think about
what might have been
'cause that was then
and we have taken different roads
We can't got back again,
there's no use giving in
and there's no way to know
What might have been...
We could sit & talk about this all night long
wonder why we didn't last.
Yes, they might be the best days we will ever know
but, we'll have to leave them in the past.
So, try not to think about what might have been
'cause that was then
and we have taken different roads
We can't go back again,
there's no use giving in
and there's no way to know
What might have been...
That same old look in your eyes
Its a beautiful night
I'm so tempted to stay
Too much time has gone by
we should just say goodbye
and turn & walk away.
And try not to think about what might have been
'cause that was then
and we have taken different roads
We can't go back again,
there's no use giving in
and there's no way to know
What might have been.
No we'll never know
What might have been...

| Kathleen, the lyrics you posted reminded me of this one. Any

He Went To Paris
By: Jimmy Buffett
1973
He went to Paris lookin' for answers
To questions that bothered him so
He was impressive, young and aggressive
Savin' the world on his own
But the warm summer breezes
The French wines and cheeses
Put his ambition at bay
The summers and winters
Scattered like splinters
And four or five years slipped away
Then he went to England, played the piano
And married an actress named Kim
They had a fine life, she was a good wife
And bore him a young son named Jim
And all of the answers and all of the questions
Locked in his attic one day
'Cause he liked the quiet clean country livin'
And twenty more years slipped away
Well the war took his baby, the bombs killed his lady
And left him with only one eye
His body was battered, his whole world was shattered
And all he could do was just cry
While the tears were a-fallin' he was recallin'
Answers he never found
So he hopped on a freighter, skidded the ocean
And left England without a sound
Now he lives in the islands, fishes the pilin's
And drinks his Green Label each day
Writing his memoirs, losin' his hearin'
But he don't care what most people say
Through eighty-six years of perpetual motion
If he likes you he'll smile and he'll say
"Jimmy, some of it's magic, some of it's tragic
But I had a good life all the way"
And he went to Paris lookin' for answers
To questions that bothered him so

"they shot from the lighthouse, they shot from the highway,

Very cool song. Another favourite on that album is "False

| Was listening to The Pretenders yesterday...Really like this song...
I'LL STAND BY YOU
Oh
Why you look so sad
tears are in your eyes
Come on and come to me, now
Don't
Be ashamed to cry
Let me see you through
Cause I've seen the dark side, too
When the night falls on you
You don't know what to do
Nothing you confess
Could make me love you less
I'll stand by you
I'll stand by you
Won't let nobody hurt you
I'll stand by you
So
If you're mad, get mad
don't hold it all inside
come on and talk to me now
Hey
what you've got to hide
I get angry too,
Well I'm alot like you
When you're standing at the crossroads
And don't know which path to choose
Let me come along
Cause even if you're wrong
I'll stand by you
I'll stand by you
Won't let nobody hurt you
I'll stand by you
Take me in into your darkest hour
And I'll never desert you
I'll stand by you.
And when
When the night falls on you baby
You're feelin' all alone
You won't be on your own
I'll stand by you
I'll stand by you
Won't let nobody hurt you
I'll stand by you
Take me in into your darkest hour
and I'll never desert you
I'll stand by you
I'll stand by you
Won't let nobody hurt you
I'll stand by you.

"the wars" started between Angeline's father and I, I remember
saying to him once that he helped me to understand how people
can say it was a thin line between love and hate.
Now this past Saturday, he came over to spend some time with
Angeline. They took off to the park and I put in a bunch of
cd's and blasted through some housework. When the returned,
didn't that song play while they were playing in the living
room!!! Had a wry grin on my face. ;-}

| It's off of "Fumbling Towards Ecstasy". An excellent album.
It's the first cut called, Possession.
Possession
Listen as the wind blows from across the great divide.
Voices trapped in yearning
memories trapped in time
the night is my companion
and solitude my guide
would I spend forever here
and not be satisfied.
And I would be the one
to hold you down
kiss you so hard
I'll take your breath away,
and after I'd wipe away the tears
just close your eyes dear.
Through this would I've stumbled
so many times before betrayed
trying to find an honest word
to find the truth enslaved,
oh you speak to me in riddles
and you speak to me in rhyme
my body aches to breathe your breath
your words keep me alive
and I would be the one
to hold you down
kiss you so hard
I'll take your breath away
and after I'd wipe away the tears
just close your eyes dear.
Into this night I wander
it's morning that I dread
another day of knowing
of the path I fear to tread
on into the sea of waking dreams
I follow without pride
nothing stands between us here and I won't be denied.
And I would be the one
to hold you down
kiss you so hard
I'll take your breath away
and after I'd wipe away the tears
just close your eyes...

| Inconsolable
I never knew what enough was, until I'd had more than my share
I let the darkness in, and it was then I lost the dare
It was then I lost the day
There will be no prayers on your return
And there will be no party thrown
And you will find your inheritance is the silence that's grown...
It is the seed that you've sown
'Cause you were the one sure thing
The one sure thing
Maybe I'm not crazy, just inconsolable
Inconsolable
There is no mystery to be revealed
And so we tell the truth and then run
I love you because I love you
And I did think that you were the one
But now I see who you've become
'Cause you were the one sure thing
The one sure thing
Maybe I'm not crazy, jsut inconsolable
Inconsolable

| How much is that doggie in the window?
The one with the waggly tail
How much is that doggie in the window?
I do hope that doggie's for sale
>>Thought something a little upbeat would be a nice change :-) <<
And it's what Angeline learned yesterday when we sang all the
way to Hampton and back (when she was awake) ).

| Time and time again I see
A love that seemed strong
Was not meant to be,
Broken hearts don't always mend,
Left too unsure, to try love again.
[chorus]
Just between you and me
Baby I know our love will be,
Just between you and me
Always I know our love will be,
Just between you and me.
Lovers often seen to say
Hearts can be blind to love gone astray,
Always it's the same old song,
Someone's been hurt by love that's gone wrong.
[chorus]
Words are sometime hard to find,
The silence can be so unkind,
You always help me find my way,
The love that we share,
Grows stronger each day,
Just between you and me,
Baby I know our love will be,
Just between you and me
Always I know our love will be
Seulement entre toi et moi
Means that our love will always be
Just between you and me
Baby I know our love will be
Just between you
Just between you and me

I've listened to "Best of Pure Prairie League" 1 1/2 times today ...
they have a few songs that I knew and liked, but never knew who did
them.

| Having read The Joy of Sex in a younger day, I always associate
"Butterfly" with a different term, which does not lend itself to
sentimentality :).

| Tony - only you...
Bob - about a month ago I taught a "short person" what a butterfly
kiss was - the smile on their face was *magic* :-)
The song had me choked up the first time I heard it...
