Here's one I just created and I'll host it for a little while. I think
initially, directions and maps will be the most useful part of this
site. It should also make it easier to see what is up ahead. I'll
particularly need help with this bit to keep it up-to-date.
Comments, contributions, etc. are welcome, unless you don't like it in
which case you can... oh nevermind. >:-)

Post your own notices on the web site. It is a slight hack, but that's
me. ;-) See the bulletted items at the top of the web site.
NOTES:
- the poster's IP address becomes part of the notice
- be careful with the descriptions, since these descriptions become
file titles (done so that browsing files by title will be intuitive);
don't punctuate your titles
- you won't be able to delete notices (email me if necessary)
- because of the second item above, you will not be able to create
another notice with the same title as one already there
Have fun, but please be on your best behavior. I'll shut this down if
the site is abused.

| Thanks for the quick thoughts thus far. I would probably put the info
into a more uniform arrangement.
What type of information might be relevant?
- Name
- Work Location?
- marital status?
- age?
- sex? (and I don't mean yes/no!)
- what else?
I often lose sight of the fact that this conference came out of the
SINGLES one. This feels more like a FRIENDS conference so I don't
usually think about the "stats" that one would usually find in singles
ads.
Clearly, many points of information should be optional.
re: a few back
re: who we are vs. who they (read-only) are
True, but I can see their viewpoint that many in this conference are
prolific writers with only very brief introductions because guess what,
"everybody" already knows them.

Actually, this was prompted by at least one real person who felt
it difficult to identify the players.
My thinking is to create at least a "who's who at a glance" type page
with the most basic of information. Additional singles-type details
may be added if people would like it.

Anybody that has access to this conference also has access to
an internal web site. So it's rather silly to start squawking
about privacy issues, don't you think?
Forcing someone to get premission to mimic a topic in this conf-
erence into a parallel web site would be like forcing everyone
to give explicit permission to read these entries in the first
place, even in here.
That said, I give you permission to mimic anything I've said in

Eventually I went back and intro'd, but I guess I don't see it as
a "must do" thing.
But then, I'm kind of relaxed about most things

Actually, this is a company-confidential notesfile like all the rest of

| There have been some valid, though paranoid, views voiced both on and
off line. Balancing the value added against the negatives is the key.
Right now, I can't make a strong enough case for the value added by
having a "cast of characters." People just have to READ this
conference to get a feel for who's who. This can change but I won't be
championing the cause.

That's not exactly right. It's only true in the case of some-
thing that's actually company confidential, like product infor-
mation.
They aren't going to fire you for printing out a joke and showing
it to your friends.

| This is a revision of 30.2 which I will delete.
I'm putting together a new machine for myself and I'm migrating the
singles chat web site there. For a while, I will maintain both
locations but will eventually turn off the original one.
Here's the new address:
http://ws1001.ako.dec.com/chat
That's One Thousand and One in the address.
[remainder from original note]
I think initially, directions and maps will be the most useful part of
this site. It should also make it easier to see what is up ahead.
I'll particularly need help with this bit to keep it up-to-date.
Comments, contributions, etc. are welcome, unless you don't like it in
which case you can... oh nevermind. >:-)

Thanks for the appreciation, but it's really no trouble at all.
My machines will always have a web server running and the coding
part is kept simple so anybody like me can easily do it. ;-)
