111.0. "Help With Address Questions" by AIMTEC::GRENIER_J (Jean Grenier) Mon Feb 17 1997 16:20

    Customer has installed Digital MAPI Driver Version 1.0 for ALL-IN-1;
    has a couple of questions.

    1. Has setup in OPTIONS for the ALL-IN-1 Address Book to be the
default. At the TO: icon instead of the ALL-IN-1 Address Book
the FIND window pops up. Have to put in a character before it
       will open the Address Book.

    	- Is this expected behaviour? Customer thought by choosing the
ALL-IN-1 Address Book as the default, it would open here,
rather than the FIND window popping up.

    2. Is there any SORT options? Customer's user names are first
initial/lastname (i.e., JSMITH). Can the ALL-IN-1 address book
       be sorted by SURNAME?

    Thanks,

    Jean

Yes, this is expected behaviour. When accessing the ALL-IN-1 Address Book
container, it always displays the FIND window.

As an alternative, your customer could select another ALL-IN-1 container
(e.g. ALL-IN-1 Nicknames), which does not display the Find window.

When using the ALL-IN-1 Address Book container, the names are not sorted.
However, the entries in Subscribers and Mail Directory are sorted on
surname.

Thanks for the quick reply. I am still trying to become familiar with
this. It seems our customers are playing with it before we are!

Thanks again,

Jean
111.3Additional Questions - Address ListsAIMTEC::GRENIER_JJean GrenierMon Feb 17 1997 18:2414
Hi, after giving the customer the information from reply #2, she came
back with the following questions/concerns.

When she selects SUBSCRIBERS as the default the FIND window does not
appear, but neither does a list of subscribers.

What she is basically looking for is when she hits the TO: icon a list
of the users (subscribers) on her system to appear. This way she can
scroll through it and locate the addresses she wants. Can this be done,
if so - how?

Thanks,
Jean

Unfortunately, this is not possible. We decided that the full list of
subscribers should not be displayed when selecting Subscribers. This is
for performance reasons: imagine a site with 10000 subscriber entries - it
would take a significant amount of time to list these entries, during which
the user cannot do anything. So instead we decided that the user must use
Find to narrow down the number of subscriber entries listed.

And of course, SUBSCRIBERS is not a distribution list, but a
special mail destination, and should probably not expand.

Note that this is just the same behaviour as in the VT, where we won't
let you do a DDS search unless *some* of the fields are filled in.
111.7Looking for another workaroundAIMTEC::GRENIER_JJean GrenierTue Feb 18 1997 15:5215
Its me again, here is what the customer wants to be able to do:

	- See a list of ALL users on the ALL-IN-1 system so that a user
can scroll through the list and pick names they want to send
	  to.

From what I have read, this cannot be done today with V1.0. Are there
any plans to add this functionality?

Also, is there any way to sort names by surname?

Thanks for all the help so far.... Someday I might get to close this
call :)

Jean,

Unfortunately there is no way to list all subscribers, or to sort on
surname.

There are no current plans to change this functionality. Contact the
Product Manager, Dave Holt@REO, if you want this to be considered for a
future release.
