| Here in Holland I've come up against a good one.
Last week I had a letter from the Post-Office, seems my letterbox was
not according to 'Standard'
Now given
a) I have the same box as everyone else on the street
and b) It's been there a LONG time
I was a little taken aback, upon further investigation it turns out
that unless I fix the box they would stop delivering post to my house.
Effective 12-May !
When I eventually get through to their customer care desk (Ho Ho!) I discover
that my box is 10.70 meters from the main road and the legal maximum
is 10m. I point out it's been that way for decades.
This doesn't matter, it seems that they have a team of people who visit
every house in the country to measure the distance between the road and letterbox
and it's taken them this long to make it to mine !
So I've had to go and by an EXTERNAL box and stick it on a pole at the
bottom of the garden just to save the postman the effort of walking 70
centimeters extra each day.
The extreme inconvienence of not having my post coming in through the
front door doesn't seem to phaze them at all.
What worries me is that some of my neigbours are away, I wonder if
they'll get their post?

Surely, the answer would have been to put it 70cm away from your door.
It would then have been 'Standard'.

I think it's a lot more than 10.70 metres to your door from a 'main'
road.
How about putting the post round the other side of the house which
might make it 10 metres from the main road but involves the postman
walking a lot further.
Alternatively put it on a pole 10 metres high.

| I thought about putting the box 70 cms nearer the road but it then gets
in the way of Sprog and his Bike...
Talking to people here it seems normal to them.

| Put it on a 70cm long bracket on the wall.
Our house, an isolated ex-farm, stands alone on the Akkerstraat, well
outside the ancient city walls of Buren. However as we are technically
within the city limits, they run down the centre of the road, in front
of our property, we must paint all our doors and windows a dingy dark
green. This is so they do not clash with the other houses in the city.
