| Well they only happen once every 1,000 years. But why do we celebrate
any anniversary? Well it brightens our otherwise boring lives.

| I'd like to go into hibernation at the beginning of 1999 and wake up
once the new millenium fuss has ended. I can't stand the hype of a new
year, never mind a new century and millenium.

| Of course, the new millenium doesn't really start at New Year 1999/2000...

| Exactly, so given we can't even decide when it bloody begins, what is
the point in building domes, ferris wheels and other celebration
buildings. I'd much rather spend the money on cleaning up the
environment. Wouldn't it be great if it could be recorded for history
that the year 2000 was greeted by schemes to clean up our beaches, clear
waste areas, inner city re-generation... Small schemes even, just to
make our country a better, more beautiful place to live in. Maybe it
does sound a bit idealistic, but not as daft as the Greenwich dome and
the hundred millions they are trying to spend ... What are other
countries planning??

| I'd rather the millenium slipped past with just a bit more celebration
than normal. The Greenwich stuff, though I don't know the details seems
particularly pointless.

| I'm with Mr. Dodd. It just seems a total waste of money, especially
since it's all a year early. Perhaps they should spend some of the
money educating people in basic mathematics so they can work out for
themselves that the new millenium starts in 2001.

| Well good on yer and all that... I'm planning a piss up but it won't
be any where near the ridiculous Dome or ferris wheel they are
insisting on building.
Maybe I'll go to Cairns for the year 2000 and just get ratted in
Samuels...

| We're going boarding and we're booking it early this year as places
are running out. Maybe Canada, maybe France, but certainly not the UK.
Chris.
PS. If anyone is really interested in advanced booking forms for new
year 1999/2000 (I only have Inghams at the moment), drop me a mail and
I'll post you a photocopied form.
