122.0. "DUAL HOST support?" by TKOV51::YAMASHIGE (DEC JAPAN) Mon Jun 02 1997 05:42

Does AlphaServer support Dual-Host ? (not Cluster)
 I hear VAX supprts Dual-Host.

 AlphaServer2100_A does mount disk1,disk2.
When AlphaServer2100_A fails down, AlphaServer2100_B does mount disks.

I am assuming this is an OpenVMS question.

: Does AlphaServer support Dual-Host ? (not Cluster)
: I hear VAX supprts Dual-Host.

   Neither platform supports unclustered dual-host.

OpenVMS Alpha supports dual-host SCSI, when clustered.

For shared SCSI, DSSI, CI or other shared interconnect VMScluster
protocols, one *must* be configured in a VMScluster -- what your
customer seeks to implement is called a partitioned VMScluster, and
OpenVMS engineering has gone out of its way to prevent this particular
configuration, and to thus prevent the massive corruptions -- both to
disk and tapes, and to in-memory "live" data structures" -- that can
arise (and have arisen) in this configuration. One can also see
system crashes with these configurations -- I've seen both corruptions
and crashes myself, and can *not* recommend this configuration.

If OpenVMS, VAXAXP::VMSNOTES or SPEZKO::CLUSTER would be better spots.
(This is the porting-to-Alpha, and the generic-Alpha notes conference.)
