93.0. "Problem installing ALPHA version of ODBC." by CHEFS::WINTERR () Wed Apr 30 1997 12:50

    Hi,

I've obtained what is meant to be the ALPHA version of the Software
Developers Kit for ODBC and have been trying to install it on our ALPHA
server 2100, (running Windows NT Server v4.0).

The installation kit insists on telling me that the ODBC32.DLL file is
in use and won't complete the installation.

I've tried stopping the SQL executive and ensuring that all users are
out of anything that might use ODBC but I still get the problem, and I
don't want to go through stopping tasks one after the other to try and
locate which has it locked if I can help it.
I'm told by a system management person that there is not a facility in
Windows NT to locate who or what has the file locked as you can from VMS.

Has anyone met this problem before - any advice or alternative notes
conferences to post would be most welcome.

    Thanks and best regards,

    Roger

93.1Wrong Spot For NT SQL Questions...XDELTA::HOFFMANSteve, OpenVMS EngineeringWed Apr 30 1997 13:194
This isn't the best conference for NT questions -- you'll want to ask
in the NT conference, or in a conference specific to the ODBC32.DLL
package. And if all else fails, contact Microsoft.

I would have mailed Roger, but he has his mail forwarded to
    something not working.

When the popup says Retry or whatever during the installation
just go to winnt\system32 and rename the offending file to file.org
then click retry on the popup.
