689.0. "OpenVMS 6.2 1H3" by HGOV08::PATRICKNG () Wed Jun 04 1997 23:39

    Hi,

How to order an OpenVMS 6.2 1H3 on AlphaServer 8420? I afraid
AlphaServer bundle with the latest version of OpenVMS. Is there a way
to specify a version number on the order?

I think this may not be a right place to ask ordering questions. Please
    give pointers if you know.

    Thanks,
    Patrick

it probably depends on the countries if you can specify to have an
older OpenVMS version FISed onto your new system.

But, I'd order just the V6.2-1H3 CDrom media, which is only $11 in
price with the following order number:

QA-MT1AG-H8 OpenVMS Alpha V6.2-1H3 media only

In the US, one contacts Software Supply Business (SSB) for media and
license orders -- see note 8.* or 9.* for the SSB contact information.

I do not know which SSB ships to the Asia Pacific area, but the folks
at the SSB (US) or ESSB (Europe) likely will.

I *strongly* recommend ordering at least one media kit for each OpenVMS
version you plan to run -- if you want OpenVMS Alpha V6.2-1H3, then you
will want to explicitly order the media kit. I'd also recommend ordering
the media and using V7.1, as it allows 64-bit addressing and VLDB, among
other features, which are particularly useful on a TurboLaser-class
   (AlphaServer 8400) class system.

I am not aware of a way to alter the factory installed software (FIS)
version, the version of OpenVMS that will be shipped on any system disk
   shipped with the system.
