682.0. "VMS/UCX system-F-insfmem " by NNTPD::"[email protected]" (David Dumas) Tue Jun 03 1997 17:41

I'm running VAX VMS V6.0 on a VAX 3600 and UCX (TCP/IP). I keep getting
the following error messages when starting the UCX applications:

 SYSTEM-F-INSFMEM, insufficient dynamic memory
 UCX-E-FTP-CRSOCK, error creating a socket

I have doubled pagedyne and npagedyne and done an autogen to try to
resolve the memory issues. There are only 2-3 users on this system.

What else can I try to free up the dynamic memory and get the network
up and running. I don't have any manuals anymore.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!
Best,

   This is a UCX error, and best asked in the UCX conference, LASSIE::UCX.

   Upgrade your MicroVAX 3600 from OpenVMS VAX V6.0 to at least V6.1, if
   not to V6.2 or (better) V7.1.

   Make sure you are running a recent UCX release -- UCX V4.1, plus ECOs,
   is current.

   Dynamic (image) memory sometimes involves the CTLPAGES SYSGEN parameter.

   If running an antique UCX release and/or dealing with a lot of routing,
   consider increasing the small buffers available to UCX -- in the file
   UCX$INET_SET_INTERFACES.COM, before UCX START COMM, add:

      UCX SET COMM/SMALL=MIN=largervalue
      UCX SET COMM/SMALL=MAX=yetlargervalue

   See LASSIE::UCX 4682.*, 2771.*, and UCXAXP::UCX 402.*, among others.

   See note 10.* here for URLs to some search engines -- but unless you
   can get UCX working, you might be stuck unable to access a URL. :-)
