627.0. "Define lat$symparameter 16, any limitations?" by HTSC19::KENNETH () Thu May 22 1997 00:21

Hi,

There is a customer report that when printing a job from the print queue
he will get LBR-E-TOOMNYLIB error.

From TIMA STAR, there is an article telling us that it is because more than
sixteen LATSYM based print queues using device control libraries on the same
host.  We have to "$define/system/exec lat$symparameter 16".

My question is :

1) If my customer has more than 16 LATSYM based print queues, what will happen?
   Do we limit the number of LATSYM based print queue to 16?

2) What can we do if we have more than 16 LATYSYM based print queues?

Thanks for your help in advance.

627.1Defining the logical should do it....OSLAGE::AGE_PAage Ronning, Oslo, Norway, (DTN 872-8464)Thu May 22 1997 02:387
1. If I remember correctly the logical will limit the number of queues pr.
   symbiont to 16. That does NOT limit the number of queues to 16, it does the
   opposite.

2. Define the logical.

627.2Queues > 16 will a new symbiont automatically creaed?HTSC19::KENNETHThu May 22 1997 03:1211
    Hi,

    Thanks for your help. Does that mean if I have more than 16 queues,
    than I should consider adding another symbiont?

    Will the queue manager create the new symbiont automatically when the
    first symbiont reach the limit of 16 queues after we define the logical?

    Thanks again,

627.3LBR$ limitiation - define logical BEFORE starting queuesHAN::HALLEVolker Halle MCS @HAO DTN 863-5216Thu May 22 1997 03:5112

    Kenneth,

    this is NOT a LATSYM problem/limitation. It is a limitation of the
    library LBR$ routines (see info in note HAN::LOOPING_LATSYM 71.2).

    Setting LAT$SYMPARAMETER to 16 (BEFORE starting the FIRST LATSYM print
    queue !!!) will limit the number of queues handled by each LATSYM print
    symbiont to 16. For the 17th LATSYM queue, the queue manager will
    AUTOMATICALLY create a new symbiont process (and for the 33rd ...).

    Volker.
